Are you able to check previous purchases of Poser from SM? Some time ago I upgraded my version 6 copy of Poser (and to be honest I can't recall exactly what version I upgraded to although I seem to think it was a ProserPro variant. Smith Micro had this weird time limit on how long you could come back and download the application; I believe they even had an additional fee if you wanted to be able to access it longer. I downloaded the application and dropped it onto a disk drive--but that was years ago, and in fact, I have since moved from Windows to a Mac. Can someone let me know what information I would need to provide other than my name and email address at the time of purchase? Is it still possible to obtain this software (outside of SM's unusual constraints)? Is it also possible to change the OS version of the software (Windows to Mac)? Thanks.

I too was wondering if it is a worthwhile upgrade to move from Poser 6 to Poser 7. I've seen the list of "improvements" but was wondering in a real-world environment if those enhancements were really worth it. I also noticed that Poser 7 has been out for some time now and didn't know if there was a Poser 8 on the horizon. I have seen some here refer to Poser Pro as the path forward on Poser and that there may not be a version 8...still, it would be nice to know.
I also noticed that at the smith-micro site you can get the packaged version for $99, but I didn't see that option at DAZ (although they give you the option of burning software to a CD). Does anyone know if only the electronic version is available at DAZ?
Thread: Main Poser window disappears after I try to open a file | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
My application doesn't crash--in fact, other than the 'Pose' window not being there it looks fine. I even let Poser open normally (factory state), deleted the default character and tried importing the Poser file--this time though, I got the hour glass again, but still no models. The weird thing though is this: when I click on the render tab of this window, my last render on that scene is there! ---Just no scene on the first tab!!!
Aaaarrrggghhh.....
(I have been away from Poser for a while, and recently had a desire to get back into it--looks like it doesn't want me back in! I have run the last Poser 6 update too...sigh.)

While I use Photoshop, a freebie out there that is pretty good is The Gimp available for Windows/Mac/Linux/Unix. Check out the web site -- you can try it for awhile before dropping any $$$ for another program. Screenshot is from a Mac OS, but not too dissimilar from Windows & Company.Message edited on: 09/04/2005 18:53

You are also missing any shadows-- this gives the appearance that the clothes are 'pasted' on the body. Shadows at the hem lines, wrinkles/folds in the clothing would help. Even within the figure shadows falling on the face from the hair would help. Not sure how your lighting is set up, but from the image it appears very flat with no direction, kind of washing the image out. This might help in creating a more realistic rendering.

Does anybody know if you can do this same thing in Illustrator? Would be nice to be able to run Live Trace on a raster image convert it to a vector image and then build swatches from the original to colorize it.

LW is a full 3D modeling/rendering/animation program that has been used in a number of films/tv shows/commercials. "The GIRL" was modeled in LW. It has been around for quite some time in various forms - originally for the old Amiga system... you can check it out at www.newtek.com (the makers of the program) or the link above to the apps homepage.Thread: Considering Vue for Poser renders? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I saw this too -- and as a registered LW 7.5 owner I could get this package for $495. Will be deciding today! (I missed the chance to get the straight LW upgrade for just $250 -- got postcard Monday, offer expired end of June. Go figure.) Then I saw this and was thinking of some of the really good Poser renders I've seen in Vue - as well as a chance to get LW up to speed.
