It may also be worth it to know that if you use an image with an alpha channel or transparency, such as the Photoshop file you mentioned, or another format that supports alphas such as .png or .tiff, etc. you can just stick the image map in the Color channel and not even bother using the Alpha channel.

Oops! Somehow I got bumped to this forum instead of the Carrara forum. Is it possible to have this thread moved?

I vote for Dustriders. He has a great pose for the human and the little creature oozes cute. The setting is very fitting as well. His lighting is, as always, superb.
Malwat has a very nice concept, but I think the execution needs some work. If you are new to this stuff, please don't take my critique too harshly. You have some great elements in that picture. The framing is good, the posing is good, the choice of characters is also very good. The achilles heel for this image could be a lack of experience for the artist in setting up the shadow methods of the lights and/or the render settings. Don't be discouraged, even the great masters had to practice before they could be great!
Nugget's image is very nice, but I didn't vote for it because the setting seemed out of place for me. I think if there were some other elements to the scene that suggested a more extra-terrestrial vibe, then I may have voted for it. Even a light streaming in a window or the door, to suggest a UFO or something outside that the alien is beckoning the viewer to follow her and see, would have added that extra little dimension. As an example, think about the little boy's abduction in, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The mother (and viewers), are terrified at what is going on, but the little boy is amused and intrigued by it.
Out of curiosity, was there a WIP thread with this challenge? They are great for sharing ideas, getting or giving tips, maybe generating additional interest in the challenge, getting some constructive critiques before the entry deadline?

Twisted humor. I see nothing wrong with twisted humor. And, there's a bunch of it in this thread.
Apparently they didn't like that Hermit was groping V4, and that Hermit was a recognizable figure from childhood loved by millions. Supposedly it was a unanimous decision by the gallery moderator team at DAZ. I decided to delete my gallery but their gallery/website software wouldn't let me, so I renamed my gallery F.U. Mods- then it was able to be deleted, although not by me. ;-) They didn't like it that I also called them hypocrites and sent them link after link to skankware they sell in their store, including a fair amount of naughty schoolgirl items, all with suggestive promo images and poses. But that's all water under the bridge at this point.
Thread: Headwax finally banned at Daz Forum? Carrara challenge image anyway :) | Forum: Carrara
First off, let me clarify that this post is not meant as an attack on Stan, but rather to clear up a misperception he seems to have. However, I will not pull any punches or gloss over my opinions about his opinions- if that makes sense.... Stan is a talented artist and I wish him the best, but let's face it, he makes Eyor from Winnie the Pooh sound like Tigger.
Stan, it wasn't I that got your alt-accounts banned as I never reported them if that's what you are insinuating. You started posting your same old stuff in the same old language that made people suspicious. I merely asked if it was you, and it was actually meant to be just a joke. How was I to know for sure?
Post:Â Blah blah blah, conspiracy at Daz, blah, blah.
Post: Mark my words, I'm right about blah, blah, blah. You'll see, I've been right all these other blah, blah, times.
My response:Â Stan, is that you? ;-)
I do concede that me jokingly asking if that was you could have drawn attention to you alias, however, you practically shouted your identity from the rooftops with the content of your posts and responses. I had a couple people ask me via PM if I thought it was you before I even read the posts of one of your aliases. If other forum members became suspicious, don't you think it would follow that the mods would become suspicious on their own?
Again, I never reported you, although I did joke about your identity, which I concede could have alerted the mods to your alias. I do think you are a good artist, I never wanted you banned, and I did and do think that while many of your posts were a value to the forum and Carrara community, there were also many that were detrimental and full of B.S. Sorry, no other way to put it.

All-righty then! I shall give it another go!
"Not Miss Piggy," or if you prefer, "It's Hard Being Green."
It's Hermit the Amphibian going to town with Vicky on a Steampunk airship. Hermit is my own model and rigging, Vickie's skin is procedural and the eyelashes, and eyebrows are dynamic hair. The head hair is by PhilW. THe airship is by Petipet. Lots of texture work on the airship and clothes. I especially am pleased with how the fabric looks on the shirt.

Thread: SSS/Weight Mapping in Carrara 8.1 pro | Forum: Carrara
Weight maps can only be saved for DAZ/Poser style figures, and perhaps only Gen4 or earlier. I don't know about the Triax figures. What this means, is that weight mapping on a custom rig or figure is saved with the figure as long as you don't detach the rig from the model. Once it is detached, if you re-attach it, you will need to weight paint it again.
It is an annoyance to be sure, but it sounds worse than it is. For instance, if I'm changing up my rig, chances are, I will need to re-weight it anyway. The easiest way to avoid having to re-weight paint the figure is to make sure the rig is correct before weight painting it.
Thread: Carrara beta updated | Forum: Carrara
Carrara 8.5.1.19 appears to be working nicely on mac 10.10.3. Now if they could just go get Bryce into working! I miss my Poser/Bryce/Carrara workflow. I have not spent much time trying to work with Gen 2 in the Carrara update much as yet, but it is loading them up rather nicely so far; however, I do keep finding breaks in the texture seams most often right at the thighs.
That may be due to Carrara defaulting to Fast Mipmap for the image maps. Try changing them to Sampling to see if that solves it.
Thread: 'Tis for the Glory #11 - 'Incongruity' | Forum: Carrara
Okay.... What did I do wrong for the image? I had no error message, but I see no image. What are the size and format requirements?
Thread: 'Tis for the Glory #11 - 'Incongruity' | Forum: Carrara
I'll stick this one and see if it gets "modded" like it did at DAZ.
I was thinking of calling it, Not Miss Piggy or perhaps, Being Green is "Hard." ;-)
