Thread: Converting obp to obj, 3ds, etc... | Forum: Bryce
Assuming the model is actually a group of objects rather than a single object, you first have to check the attributes of each object in the group & make sure it's either positive or negative (not neutral). Once all the objects are changed in this way, a C should appear at the bottom of the selectable items for the group when the group is selected (see attached figure). Click on the C to Collapse the group. Once it's collapsed, the Export Object menu choice should no longer be grayed out & you can export it.

You're welcome, 3eighty (I'm both photosynthesis & eyeland - I try to use eyeland for my Bryce posts, but sometimes I slip up)...

Any chance you've accidentally unchecked the "Render With Textures" box under Render Options?

Thread: question: shadows | Forum: Bryce
I'm not aware of any way to do that directly, but I can think of a few ways to possibly fake it, that might or might not work depending on your requirements:
Place the object offscreen.
Place the object inside or behind another object.
Render your scene, then delete the object, then plop render just the area where the object used to be.

Thread: O.T. Prometheus | Forum: Bryce
Saw Prometheus yesterday & enjoyed it thoroughly. It was visually stunning, but also had an interesting (though challenging) plot & the dialogue & acting were not embarrassing, as is too often the case in many sci-fi films. I would agree with some of the criticism that the characters were not well developed enough, though that's not the primary focus or appeal of films like this. Definitely in a different league than the dozens of special effects movies released each year that are filled with little else but explosions & other mind-numbing noise. I would rate it very highly & think it's the best sci-fi film to come along since Avatar. Plan to go back & see the 3D version if I can...
As far as it's connection to Alien, it's kind of a prequel that foreshadows the earlier movie. Alien takes place in the 22nd century, while this film takes place in the late 21st century. The very last scene of this film (which I won't provide any detail on to avoid being a spoiler) provided a very clear connection between the two films in my mind...

Trailer looks promising, director Ridley Scott has delivered some very fine scifi in the past (the original Alien & Blade Runner) & buzz I've heard (though I can't remember who from) is positive. Definitely one I will be going to see on a big screen...

Thread: otish..laptop specs advice.. | Forum: Bryce
Don't know anything about these specific models, but I second bobbystahr's advice about avoiding HP - I have had a couple of HP machines & have been unhappy with both of them (hardware conflicts & other flaky behavior, lots of bloatware & poor technical support)...

Thread: OTish - For Your Inspiration | Forum: Bryce
Looks like it has potential - Ridley Scott delivers more often than not & I'm a big fan of the original, groundbreaking Alien. And looks like one worth seeing in the theater to me. A little puzzled by the people in the trailer - some look real & some look CGI?

Thread: Does anyone know how to make people in Bryce and only Bryce | Forum: Bryce
I'm sure very patient & meticulous modelers could (& possibly have) modeled realistic people using only Bryce, but IMHO it would be EXTREMELY tedious & inefficient. This is not what Bryce was designed to do.
There are other modelers available for free or inexpensively if you don't like DAZ Studio. One free one that is suitable for modeling realistic people (which you could then import into Bryce) is Sculptris - you can get it at:

Thread: Question about Bryce 7 Pro | Forum: Bryce
Both rstars & Thunderstones suggestions are excellent & I always do both (backup all my preset libraries & install new versions of Bryce into a different folder) whenever I install a new release of Bryce. Ideally, new versions of software should NEVER overwrite files that are designated as "user libraries", but I would never, ever risk counting on that...

Thread: Hey!! You guys and gals interested in a new Bryce content bundle version2? | Forum: Bryce
I'm probably in the minority on this, but I'm not that interested in complete objects & prefer abstract or biological or mechanical shapes & parts that I can then assemble myself into whatever I want to create (which generally falls into the fantasy, sci-fii or surreal realms). Sort of advanced primitives. I create some for myself, but am basically lazy & not terribly talented when it comes to modelling, so am willing to pay others who are more skillful. But will definitely check out your content bundle when it becomes available, even if it doesn't include those kinds of things...
