I popped in to vent about this interview too.
I'm stunned at the "dumbassity" of this statement:
"We don't specifically break down sales of our product on Mac vs. Windows platforms, as many of our products are hybrid releases. Through our research we have found that sales for Corel Bryce 5 are strongest with Windows customers, particularly at retail."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Corel doesn't break it down into Mac vs Windows, then how would they know which sells better?
Screw Corel. Gimme Bryce, or watch the Mac community (concentrated with creative types) move on to the competition.

Cloning himself is cool and all, but turning into a ghost is cooler. ;) And, an awesome material on that structure to boot!

Incardine, it's only necessary to convert to CMYK if you are sending your image to be printed on a press. If you leave it in RGB mode, sometimes your image will print in black ink only.

Oh, and never compress files unless you absolutely have to. That LZW compression can introduce artifacts into the image, so unless you absolutely have to, turn it off. You can always stuff or zip your files after you save them to conserve space.

If you are using Photoshop 5 or newer you have to set your color profiles to display the image properly. Photoshop adjusts the image color to display properly on screen for you, and the settings from the factory are usually wrong. Those settings are in the file menu. To get a rough calibration, print your image in RGB, convert to CMYK, and adjust your color profile to match the print as closely as possible. If you don't have a printer, then adjust the CMYK profile to match what the RGB was and hope for the best. Color correction is a pain. If you are using a Mac, calibrate the ColorSync Control Panel/Pref Pane as well (well first, actually).

This one was tough. I was having a hard time trying to figure out where the error was, I found it.I've used trees in the past to simulate waves, and with patience it can work.
Here's an old thread on that topic.
Here's a WIP using that technique.
Hope that helps!
Forgive the html overuse in this post ;)

Thread: War on Iraq, building the chessboard :) | Forum: Bryce
I've been thinking about this a while. The difference in interpretation, I think, is because I view the cross as an identifying feature of the king and not a symbol of Christ. I ignore the Christ reference because it's the whole chess piece that I consider, and not its details as none of the details are particularly remarkable. What I mean by that is that it's a fine chess piece, but it's not an unusal chess piece so I don't really focus on its details. It may be because I'm a chess player, I'm not sure. You could modify the king, I suppose, to eliminate the cross, place that on Iraq, and show it surrounded by other pieces and perhaps have a bishop putting the king in check. That would satisfy your want to show a religious crusade, but after some thought, that may just be more confusing as the Pope is against the proposed war. You could put US colors on the pieces, but I'm afraid that might cheapen the piece into a silly political cartoon. I think that either suggestion would take from the simplicity in composition and just cause clutter and send more messages than you want to. I like the pieces simplicity. It's very strong in its simplicity. I don't know what to say. I guess I'll just go back to what they taught me in art school and be satisfied with whatever I, the viewer, take from it. The weird thing about art is that you never know how people will interpret your work. If it were my piece, I'd move the map so the king sits on Iraq. I hope that helps. I really just wanted to post the first paragraph explaining why I think the King stronger in symbolism than the Cross that's on it, but I got a little carried away.

The lone king looks rather defenseless, but I wonder why it's in the Gulf and not on Iraq. It confuses the message for me. I presume that the lone king represents Iraq's defenselessness to a US invasion force. As for lighting, I'd just soften that shadow. Adding some refracted light that passes through the king might be a nice touch as well. A totally personal opinion is that I prefer white and black chess to red and black, but that's just my personal opinion. Very simple, very powerful. I like it.

Uh, no offense AS, I know that you're not the guy responsible for the changes, you're just the messenger; but that new profile section looks less like a User Profile and more like a spam generator.

G4 450 Dualie. 768 MB RAM, ATI Rage Pro 128 (eh, good enough) 17" CRT. LaCie makes smokin' monitors. I have a 19" at work. I strongly recommend them.
