Thanks for all your input folks, but alas I have another dilemma which is that I cannot buy online. I am pretty much stuck with retail right now, but have an immediate need for a laptop. I did find what could be a sweet deal at a local CompUSA for a Compaq Presario r4025us laptop. It has 2.0ghz processor, 1gb ram, 80gb hd, 15.4" screen and an ATI Radeon Express 200M vid card with 128mb installed ram. This may be the one to get...as long as they still have it in stock by this weekend. lol Jim

Acadia, Sounds like a great system but I would also like to know what you have for a vid card and if it has shared or dedicated ram? Jim

I have limited space in the place I live in and don't have the room for a pc, plus I have a greater need for mobility. I have found some laptops that say they have dedicated memory for the video card. There is one in particular that has a gig of ram, but has 128mb of shared video mem. Would this system be cool? I figured with the increased ram, the video ram wouldn't hurt the resources very much. I hadn't planned on running P6 anyways since I heard about the bugs. I guess now the question is whether having a laptop with greater ram will help with the sharing of vid memory? Jim P.S. thanks to those who have sent their suggestions, I appreciate it!

I for one Ray like what you have done. If you don't mind, I would like to add a couple requests that maybe you could either add to this or create a separate package. I agree with the "look" you captured and I for one appreciate this type of content, but I also like seeing the use of cigarette holders (check out my latest post in the Poser Gallery or just go to my homepage), and/or longer cigarettes. Perhaps you could create morphs for cig length and perhaps some different cig textures for closeup shots too. You have broke ground here, and that is commendable. Thanks very much. Jim :-)

While it would be nice to plop down a few hundred more on my pc to acheive these high end stats, All I have is what's listed above. I am considering buying another 512mb of RAM, since memory prices are within my budget, so I can at least have the gig of RAM that most have already. I just recently upgraded the mobo and cpu and then bought P5, so I am strapped for cash right now. This is the reason for my posting of this thread to see if anyone happenes to share the same specs as I and what they have their system set to. I have increased my paging file to a gig and placed it on a separate hd (which has been recommended by alot of techies out on the net), so that should help. Needless to say, I have yet to install P5 because of my brother's lack of knowledge for pcs and allowed a bit of malicious content to strike my computer as of late, so alas, there went the c: drive and I had to reformat and reinstall win2000. I have taken the appropriate safeguards now (norton antivirus and norton firewall), so i shouldn't have this problem again (especially since I scared my brother straight when I showed him what was happening). Anywho, thanks so much to those who have posted your comments and I welcome anyone else to post more on this subject! Jim

Thanks for the info. I was wondering too what I need to set my paging file size to. I know it sounds all too technical, but I just don't want to experience any "out of virtual memory" errors. BTW, I just got P5 a few minutes ago (from Amazon for a steal!), and I noticed in the documentation that the version that was shipped to me had SR1 & SR2 included so I guess all I need to upgrade to is SR3 and I should be cool and groovy. You may also have to do what I did the other night. It is possible that XP is not running Poser correctly. I upgraded to Win2K and couldn't run Poser at all. I had to install the software compatibility tool and set Poser to run under WinNT 4 sp3. That did the trick. Of course, I am not sure if XP works the same way, but it is an option

Actually, I figured out what the problem was. I went to Microsoft's website and used their support database, and it actually had what I was searching for. I searched for msvcp60.dll and it pointed to an article that described the files contained within the support/tools directory on the Win2K CD. All I had to do was install the support tools and low and behold, that funny file was part of the Windows Apps Compatibility Tool. I was able to associate Poser with WinNT 4.0 Sp3 and the program ran perfectly! Guess I need to read up more on Win2K since I am new to it, eventhough I administered networks through WinNT before. Thanks for all your support guys, I really appreciate it!

The error I get says the msvcp60.dll is missing in .....blah blahblah (looks in metacreations folder and the winnt system folder) This all happens when I try to start up poser

I have an installation problem that is similiar. I had Win98 and installed Poser and the Pro Pack without any problem and have used it for a while. I just recently upgraded my OS to Win2000 and now I install Poser without problems, but the Pro Pack won't work. I get a message about a missing dll file. Anyone know what I am talking about and know how to fix it?
