DominiqueB, I have looked in the Poser and Lightwave sections for Greenbriars plug-ins. I am probably missing something but can you tell me where I can find them? Many thanks! mokba
Thread: Back at it with 4.2 - WIP | Forum: Vue
Thanks for the comments. My biggest compaint was that there was no feeling of depth. The opening in the cliff would easily let me show a deeper composition. I did not use any displacement mapping but manipulated the material mix percentages until it came out right. I also did a huge amount of detail work with the effects brush using mostly cracks and grit. I have never tried to manipulate a terrain to that dgree with the brush but have been pleased with the results. mokba

Scott, What I meant was I would pay for the switch to Vue Pro from Vue 4.X when it is debugged enough for me to use it. I played with Pro for almost two weeks before deciding it could not be used to produce any work and sent it back. mokba

I have experienced problems similar to smallspace. Adjusting about any parameter causes my machine (p4 3.0, XP pro) to lock up so tight I have to use the reset button. I have gone through this with e-on and tried a series of ideas, none of which worked. E-on was responsive to my queries and tried to help solve this. I am dropping back to punt, returning to Vue 4.2 and will await proper bug extermination until Pro is ready to use. I am willing to pay for the update when it is ready but have too much work to accomplish to fight this battle now.

bgft, all my other open gl apps are running fine (lightwave, carrara, etc.) I'm afraid that e-on is once again not getting it when it comes to open gl. thanks for the tips I'll give them a shot. mokba
Thread: vue crashes when i try to edit a material | Forum: Vue
eric, I am getting flashes on both my monitors when I start up windows. One of them flashes (the old one, running a plug and play driver) when I go to display settings and open the advanced button. It also took a few whacks to get my refresh rates set back to comfortable levels after updating the driver. nish, I am on to the os setting now. I didn't want to muddy my own waters until I had tried to solve it internally with the software. I am kind of in the same boat as eric now as I have made so many changes that I don't remember them all. I know I'm suppose to take detailed notes but I let my need to fix this get the best of me. mokba

eb, I downloaded the 3.8 drivers yesterday so they have to be the latest. I also checked in at microsoft to make sure I had the latest xp drivers. I have been playing with the open gl in vue only at this time. When I have exhausted that I will get into display panel options with the card itself. mokba

Sounds to me like we have an ATI problem for sure. I have tried just about every combination of open gl parameter options in vue pro. I hate stepping back to wireframe as one of my big reasons for going to pro was to be able to use open gl to help plant placement. I did step back to wire frame, loaded some scenes that had caused crashes and had no problem. Next I went back to open gl, loaded the same scenes and had no problems. ?????? I am now busily trying to recreate earlier crashes to verify what is going on but can't nail it down any further than an ATI related bug. e-on & ATI are you listening?? mokba

eb, the further I get into this the more it seems to be an ATI/open gl problem. I ended up trying a massive amount of different combinations in the open gl categories. After turning everything off, loading scenes that had crashed and then turning open gl back on things seem to be working. Wish I knew for sure what had taken place. I am still putting vue through the paces trying to make it crash again but it looks like my issues might be with ATI. Thanks for the USB 2.0 lead, I will try it if I run into another wall. mokba

eb, this sounds very similar to what I have been experiencing. my problems started when trying to edit materials and continued onto adjusting light size, changing bump gain, etc. see my thread 'constant lock up' for my machine particulars. I am also about ready to toss it all in and ask for a refund. mokba

Linda,Thanks for your hard work. I started out the morning looking for both a decent ashlar rock wall and tree bark, and look what was in the first place I looked, your textures. Thanks again, mokba

Thread: Sky banding | Forum: Vue
Thanks for the reply. You were correct in that the problem was in the atmosphere settings. There seems to be a three way conflict created between the 'sky color map distorsion', 'fog in sky' on the sky tab along with the 'fog' in the fog & haze tab. I don't have it all figured out yet but it seems to be a combination of these three causing the banding. Essentially I turned off all of the atmosphere settings and turned them back on one at a time to figure out what was causing the problem. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
