Thank you SO much for your help!

Thread: WIP lighting feedback please | Forum: Bryce
While I was at it I also lightened the wall colors and changed my 'container' units. Oh, and the silliness? That's what happens when I have several days having my eight hours of sleep split into 3 or 4 segments, I get silly, grouchy - or both!

I did play with making the light visible but couldn't get a result I liked.
I hope these are improvements and not a total, uh, mess!

Thanks for the quick feedback! And I remember that image and the flak you got; guess why I was careful to add the skirting/baseboards! (I thought it was a good image myself).

Thread: so new it's ridiculous! | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Thanks ya'll! I'm using DAZ/Studio 4. The problem I have with most tutorials is they assume you have a certain level of knowledge about terminlogy I just don't have. Example: I've sort of figured out what is meant by morph, but haven't a clue how one uses a morph! The controls on DAZ I'm sorting out by trial and error, but so far it's been mostly error.
Again, thanks for the feedback!

Thanks to both of you - I guess I wanted the extra bell and whistles. I did not know about the serial number thing. Being stubborn and prone to do things the hard way rather than the easier way (hubby gets frustrated with me), I'll probably download it anyway.

Thread: What's your reason for posting artwork on Renderosity | Forum: Bryce
Hmmm - a little background first. In 1997 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and about a year later was deemed unable to work and went on Social Security disability. I'm not saying that to get any pity because I do NOT feel sorry for myself and certainly do not want others to feel any differently, but in part this explains why I post artwork on Renderosity.
As a human being and creative person, as are we all, I crave and need someone other than family to notice me and my work. During the warmer parts of the year, the few venues where I sell my jewelry are enough to satisfy that need, but during the colder months of the year when I'm pretty much stuck at home, Bryce and Renderosity are my only creative outlet.
long pause I guess what I am trying to say it IS an ego thing with me but I don't see that as a bad reason. I'm only a hobbyist and don't consider myself as a great artist, but it is a 'feel good' moment when I know that others besides my 'that looks nice' hubby have at least looked at what I've created. The few comments and compliments I've received are enough for me to know that I am NOT invisible.
sigh Okay, I guess I do sometimes feel sorry for myself and need a bit of a morale boost! Now that I've psychoanalized myself into a corner, I'll shut up!

Thread: Critical comments and low ratings | Forum: Bryce
I'm getting into this late, but the topic interests me.
I personally don't have a problem with constructive criticism such as 'you need more light here' or 'maybe move this object over there' help me with the next project. But one of the first pieces I posted back in 2002 received this comment - 'this sucks'. This was NOT helpful or true criticism, it was just plain meaness. If it hadn't been for others coming along afterward to give me encouragement and helpful comments, I would've quit then.
grin Of couse, now I agree with the comment and have since redone the image!
Now I rarely post any image unless I am darn sure I'm completely happy with it, that my OCD half is satisfied. At that point, comments like the one above I can just brush off and go on with my life.
On the other hand, if I have an image that just doesn't seem to be coming together to my OCD's satisfaction, there is always the 'wip' section or posting on this forum.
Ooop, hubby wants his computer back - see ya'll later!!

ps - any typos are the fault of hubby's lousy screen picture right now - his good monitor is in the shop!
Thread: OT - going into withdrawal | Forum: Bryce
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
Hubby has pretty much narowed my computer woes to malware. A file he keeps deleting when he runs a variety of virus/adware/spyware/malware scans keeps showing back up on my computer. He's now using bleepingcomputer.com to see if he can get rid of this, well, bleeping problem!
sigh Of course, that means I am still computerless, but not so hopeless!

Thread: OT - going into withdrawal | Forum: Bryce
We don't KNOW what is going bad. He's swapped out hard drives with no luck, then put the old one back WITH the new one, ran I don't know how many spyware/adware/fix-it programs and he still doesn't know what the problem is. It freezes - randomly, with no apparent pattern to the freeze at all. Then it's a b*tch to reboot.
He's good with computers, hardware and software, has built most of ours except this one (it's an hp off the shelf we bought after Katrina). He wiped things clean to the point I almost had a virginal computer, to which I reinstalled Bryce and PSP 7 from the original discs.
If anyone has any other suggestions, I will pass them on to see if it's something he HASN'T tried yet.
sigh I don't like his computer, it doesn't have Bryce on it!

Thread: for curiousity's sake | Forum: Bryce
Oh, and it's not so much comments as just having folks take a look - I've had as few views as ten on an image, while those posted right after or before had 30 or 40.
Now THAT is discouraging!

Thanks everyone for your feedback!!
Like Annie D, I look at a lot of work that I don't feel needs a comment because: they have tons already; or I just don't have anything to say about it, good OR bad! When something really blows me away, I'll comment.
I do this mostly for myself, and to please myself, but like any other creative endeavors in my life, having someone at least LOOK at my work means a lot, even if they don't comment. I'm that way about my jewerly; even if someone doesn't buy anything, it means alot when they stop and look.
I thought about the 'collecting friends' and marking favorites but like someone already said, that just isn't my way, never has been.
3Dcommune sounds worth checking out and I will do that when my computer quits crashing and I have more time online!
Again, thanks to everyone who commented!
