The original file was only about 300K, that's why I was so confused! And, of course, it was flattened as that's the only way to get a jpeg. I don't have imageready, but I'll see what I can do. Thanks!

Whenever I'm working with a picture that would be larger than the availble screen area due to the tools, I often "hide" all the windows by hitting "TAB". Sure, you have to "un-hide" them to do a lot of things, but learning the short-cut keys saves you A LOT of trouble! I can do a great deal of work with those windows hidden using the short-cuts and planning ahead. Good luck! Neil
