Thread: Can you produce nice renders with Iray in under 10 minutes? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Thread: How do I unzip on a Mac | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If you have a brand new mac, the default is to download to a folder called Downloads which is sandboxed i.e... designed so that if you are downloading something bad such as a virus, the file can't execute outside that Download folder. You can change the location you download to or change what the Download folder does by going to the Security and Privacy tab and changing what the Download folder allows but read about this first so that you understand the security implications. I would recommend that you get one of the many installer applications for Poser since you don't want to overwrite the runtime of your Poser application with the runtime of you new download.

Personally, I'm loving it...definitely worth a try especially since you don't have to do anything to your original Daz studio and Poser installations. It fixed a few bugs for me; you do have enable DIM to accept the beta updates but that is a good thing anyway...

Google Eric von Stroheim... an austrian director and actor... that was the sort of stuff he would wear when he was being interviewed...

Thread: A SERIOUS QUESTION, what is it that attracts POSER users to Genesis and it's pro | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I agree is was a big problem but not an impossible problem... I am horrible at using Wardrobe Wizard (I can fit clothes but they never look quite right) but a lot of the fun of 3d is that the "Make Art" button is 100% there so one s always tweeking. I remember trying to render Daz figures in Bryce in the old days and having to hand set everything.
I do want to say that we are in many ways in the best of times. We have two really good programs for rendering human figures at a bargain price with the old stand maturing into atruly pro level product with the promise of creating base characters of the same quality as its software and a newish product that promises some great evolutionary steps for where characters and can handle the bulk of legacy products. In a perfect world, I would love if V5 and M5 were a bit more compatible for both platforms and I could use EasySkin on both platforms but I am happy if both companies become stronger and succesful.

Ah, i tend to render in bursts so right now i use M5 and V5 in Daz Studio, mainly M4 in Poser, a little of noth in Carrara and am learning to use M5 in Poser. Alas Bryce doesn't run on my machine and I would use that too...

I step into this very carefully as someone who uses both programs. I have to begin with why I use Poser and some strengths and weaknesses. I have become extremely familiar with how to create credible Poser light and I feel it has the most "painterly" of lighting. Also, I love its approach to animation. Though I am pretty catholic in where I buy, the figures I buy are mainly for characters created by Daz3D. In a lot of ways, Michael 5 is a great evolutionary step from Michael 4 if only because of the possiblites in scaling, better joints, but also because of the future of Michael 5. Content will only increase for the Genesis characters, and I think that I don't want to completely fall in a hole of propping up legacy figures. Being able to move between the two allows me to use my now vast library of Poser products with a current figure rather than a legacy figure. Even the people who despise Genesis (one should mention that there are two groups: those who just see no point in Genesis and those who resent that there is no Poser-ready Genesis) benefit because the figure is now partially driving the move by both companies to add features to their characters. I get to continue using my favorite vendors (Luthbel, Rawart, etc) without tying their hands in terms of what technologies they want to employ.
Thread: Is Genesis Killing DAZ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I am currently a user of both PoserPro 2012 and Daz Studio 4.5 on my mac running Mountain lion; I've used Poser since Poser 2 and Daz Studio since Daz Studio 2. I can't say that I have the insight that the various vendors do but I have made my peace with both companies at this time. I love the look of Poser renders and have always been a fan of the quirkiness of Kai Krauss interfaces (It makes me smile when people here mention how they can't get used to the interface of Daz Studio which is closer to other 3D programs and prefer the idiosyncratic Kai Krause interface of Poser). If I were to offer a critique, I would ask if it would have killed SmithMicro to support a mac supported tkinter for scripts and ask Daz3d to make an effort to make some of the genesis clothing less "rubbery" looking but on the whole, I am happy with both efforts. I buy from pretty much all of the stores. I am especially pleased that I can open most of my legacy Poser stuff in Daz Studio, that often vendors make stuff for both characters so I can render in both programs, and find that when one tweets shading rate, they both render at about the same speed with similar quality. It is also nice that there will be parity in Reality (one can use LuxRender with Reality for both platforms but, boy, what an enhancement in work flow speed). I remember enough of the launches of the various sites (as well as being aware of the economies of scale now and the legacy stuff that clogs the pipes) to look forward to Daz3d's site being 100%. Bryce, the big issue is that it is old enough that finding people to work on its innards is a problem. I don't like this strife; I think it is important for both communities to remember that we are all rendering together and need to direct this religious zeal outward rather than inward.

Thread: Poser 2010 problems on Mac Lion install | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Having used Poser 8 on Lion since day one, I haven't really run into any problems I can't overcome. The obvious problems I have run into are the above mentioned library glitch (though the library is still workable, problems with the eyedropper, and occasional rare onetime glitches which seem to have decreased with time (an occasional saved work copy). Alll in all, I don't find that it has messed up my workflow and all of my scripts seem to work fine. rendering speed seems to be the same or faster, Carrara and Poser seem to working fine, Bryce is, well, Bryce... I haven't opened Hexagon yet.

So Far, my list of of problem items include: that library problem, wonky camera controls, and I seem to have lost the ability have Carrara import my saved Poser stuff..
