Im only 24 but Ive been traditionally trained as an artist, done magazine work and marketing/advertising design aswell, this has all helped me take my Poser artwork to what I hope is a very high level. I aim for ultra-realism in alot of my imagery but I have found some limitations. Please visit this link to see how Poser can be used to silence all the Poser critics out there :D lol http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=634071&Start=19&Artist=paulwillocks&ByArtist=YesThread: OHH POSER artists.....did you know we are not artists? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I think that 'true art' as a definition means, "to convay ideas or emotions visually" as long as you feel you have got your message across to the audience then it is art, no matter what the image or whatever looks like.
This is why alot of 'Modern Artists' are misunderstood. People are like "but thats just a line on a bit of paper!" etc etc. If you actually spoke to the artist to find out what the line on the bit of paper meant then you may well see the piece differently.
Ok I dont know if that makes any sense, but thats just my thought on art. Basically what Im saying is that no matter what tool you use, as long as you get your message or idea across then you are an artist and your image is art.
Its as simple or as complicated as you like!

ernyoka1 - "What really amuses me is how such a discussion can really tick people off. Why BOTHER what self-appointed elitist snobs thinks about Poser? Do YOU like Poser? Do you like what you're doing with Poser? Then WHY CARE what other people may think about it?" I completely agree, however I think Picasso is excellent. lol :)

Heres a little tip for anyone who is looking for the 'soft' look to their images. Assuming your using photoshop ----------------------------- 1. Open your render 2. Duplicate the layer twice so you have 3 layers (All the same) 3. Delete the very bottom layer (or background layer). This will allow you to adjust the opacity of both layers. 4. Add a Gaussian Blur filter to the bottom of the two remaining layers (Use a setting of around 4-5) 5. Now click on the top layer and change the layer mode to either overlay, screen, or whichever layer setting you feel gives you the softness you are looking for. 6. Now you will have a soft image but you will have to play around with the opacity levels of both layers, and also adjust the colour balence to get you perfect image. This is just a very rough way of creating soft images that I have written on the fly. If you would like to check my gallery out and view some of the postwork i have applied to my own imagery then please feel free. http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?ByArtist=Yes&Artist=paulwillocks Also if you have any questions at all just IM me. Thanks guys. paulwillocksThread: OHH POSER artists.....did you know we are not artists? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

Ive heard this discussion so many times its untrue. 'oooohh poser is a beginners program and im the supreme being because i use traditional media or 3dsmax' lolIts ridiculous, ive got experience using most art related software, i also have a traditional art background. I 'KNOW' that I am an artist so I dont really let this discussion bother me.
At the end of the day I use Poser more than any other program because it allows me to express my ideas in a way that other packages wont.
Id love to see people who diss poser create similar images to the ones found in my gallery at the 'click of a button'.
I think they would change their minds about the program should they 'actually' use it.
Artists should never judge other artists in my opinion. They should just respect each others chosen style and media.
Anyway, lets not let it get to us, and lets just laugh about it. All you have to do is look through the poser gallery on a regualar basis to see that we are creating art.
