I was referring to the actual structure of the volute rather than the subdivision. Teyon's methods work fine, but I find that it is a bit easier to create a disk of 12 sections for the eye of the volute and a helix of 36 sections, 1080 degrees, with an inside radius equal to the disk and an outside radius 9 times that of the inner. I then create polys from these. I can easily pull vertices to match a specific volute. Of course, this isn't necessary if you are creating generic capitals. Then select the edges that create the scroll and bevel and extrude. Add any detail to the volute. Then subdivide to smooth as much as you like.
I can do a flash tut in Silo, but I won't be able to get to it until Thursday or Friday night.

Not much to add except enter should be pressed after any edit box entry in Silo. This looks like it will be rectified in version 2, see link.Message edited on: 01/05/2006 14:37
Thread: Considering Buying Vue and Lightwave Bundle | Forum: Vue
With the software you have now, I don't see what you gain with Vue + whichever. If the money is burning a hole in your pocket, buy hardware or books.
Thread: Silo? Rhino? Modeller? | Forum: Bryce
I am an AutoCad/Rhino/Cinema modeler, but I have recently bought Silo and I think it is really cool. It is easy to learn and the workflow is very fast. I have wanted a modeler for organics and snatched up Silo after going through the Nevercenter and user websites. If you do the same, you will find that the program offers a great deal for its price and is very well supported...the guys who create the program actually visit their site's forum and take requests. :D What really got me to crack open my wallet was the preview for the next version due out in a few months. It will have displacement painting and UV texture editing. YooHoooo! If you are looking for an all in one program, I echo what has been said...take a good long look a SoftImage XSI. You get a lot of program for not much cash.

Pretty cool! Reminds me of the guy who built one in his backyard for his kids to play in.Thread: Lightwave-vue mapping probs please | Forum: Vue
Hi. Depending on how you saved your map, you may have to flip or rotate the image. Most often it is just a matter of flipping the image vertically. First, try replacing the 1.000 in the "Picture Scale Y" edit box with -1.000. HTH

Thread: Bryce 5.5/6 vs Vue5? | Forum: Bryce
I've purchased every version of Bryce since v2 and recently bought the Vue 4 ESD. Switch. The render times are incredibly faster, the interface is far and away better than Bryce and features that Bryce should have had long ago. You won't be disappointed.

Thread: So how long does it take, anyway? | Forum: Vue
I know how you feel. I recently purchased the download version of V4. Vue has had my cash since Thursday and I can't use the software until they send me a serial number. I'm a less than satisfied customer. They have done a great job at hiding their email address and put a disclaimer that they probably won't get it. Obviously, they don't get it. Not sure if it is worth sending them an email about their poor practices. I guess that is why people post messages like these at BBS's.
Thread: Selection "offset" | Forum: Photoshop
If you want to do an "offset" like the Autocad command then you would first need to create a copy of the selection. To move the selection, you can use either the "free transform" or if you want more precision than "numeric transform."
Thread: Importing Autocad Linework | Forum: Photoshop
I use quite a bit of autocad line drawings in ps/psp and I've had the same problem as well. First, make sure the display resolution is adequate. To export, you can use the saveimg or export commands. For simple drawings I'll export in a raster format, but for more intricate drawings I'll use a vector format like wmf. Either way, I zoom on what I want to export so that it uses as much of the workarea as possible.
Thread: Too much freebies | Forum: Bryce
Bazze you know you're onto to something when those against you can only foment and/or spew animus. Keep on modeling.
Thread: Too much freebies | Forum: Bryce
Bazze you're not alone. I agree with you in principle. I also realize that in practice one must accept it. However, I like to see this question posted regularly. I think that too often the art of modeling is overlooked. I often hear/read that models are tools. This to me is a specious argument. Designing and building a model is a step in the creative process just as much if not more so than compostion and texturing. Though it may seem esoteric, I believe tools are used in the creation process they do not become part of the creation. And as such, I take much more interest in a work which was entirely created by its author.
Thread: I can't take it anymore.. I must say goodbye.... | Forum: Bryce
I going to take a bit different tack than the rest...Another of my hobbies is designing and making furniture and other wood crafts. I frequent a couple of woodworking boards and the strength of my experience is in handtools old and new, design, and joinery. I often get frustrated when I see advice given/taken that is all wrong or when constructive criticism is not taken for what it is. Cliques form and they tend to ignore the posts of "outsiders." Pretty much the same things that go on here take place at other sites. I am on a self-imposed exile or sabbatical if you will for the time being. I occassionally stop in to lurk but nothing more. When I'm ready I'll return. So, if you feel as though leaving is best, then do it. The last thing this place should be is a source of frustration. It is not worth it. You may find that in time you'll want to return or not. I'm sure you will be welcome here if you decide to return. Either way your artwork is excellent and your dedication to improve yourself will mean that your standards will not suffer. Have fun. Scott
