Thread: Fractal programs for Mac OSX...? | Forum: Fractals
Hi nick I do use a mac but generate most of my fractals on a pc. This tells you that I feel that the pc has a better range of fractal programs. If however you only want to work on the mac then there are a number of possibilities open to you. If you have virtual pc you can look for pc fractal generation programmes that will run under it. I seem to remember someone on the apophysis beta list saying that apophysis ran fine on virtual pc. IMHO apophysis is a brilliant program and well worth a look. I must add a caveat, I have not personally run it on virtual pc so you need to check this out. There is a beta version of fractal domain that will run under osx. You can find it at the following url: http://www.fractaldomains.com/ There is a program, that I like a lot, called artmatic pro. Now this is not primarly a fractal generator. It is like an audio synthesizer where you patch components together to build modules. Some of these components are fractal in nature. Because of this you can produce fractals on it. You can also produce mixtures of fractals and other components. It will allow you to input pictures as part of a module. Hence you can create modules designed to manipulate fractal pictures. It isn't really a first fractal program niether is it cheap. You can check it out and download a trial version at the following url: http://www.artmatic.com/ Hope this helps Paul

I have problems fitting everything in even though I don't send thankyou messages. I feel that I am not able to give some images the attention they should have.

I think there is some very interesting work being done using fractals in 3d programs. If you already know bryce, and by the look of your image you do, then this could be a very good direction for you to follow.

I had another idea just after the above. What about a screen saver that switched between various fractals. My programming is a bit rusty but I think I could probably do one those if enough people wanted to have their fractals included.

I would recomend ulrafractal 3 and Apophysis. Apophysis is free. Ultrafractal isn't but there is a demo version.

I would go along with keeping to a low number of transforms. You can explore good starting points more systematically if you only have two or three triangles to move. it is amazing how many different flames you can get from one good starting point. I start by moving a triangle round without changing its shape . From this process I save a second set of starting points to explore latter. I then go back to the origonal and move another triangle around again saving anything interesting ... and so on. Next I go to the saved images and start stretching and changing the triangles. Exploring them one point at a time. Good luck Paul
