If you get UVMapper Pro, you can preview your texture on the object as you work in the paint program. BJ
Thread: what do you think about Digital Carvers plugins | Forum: Carrara
I just got Anything Grooves and Anything Grows. Although I would not call them intuitive to use (it seems very little is in 3d software), after going through the tutorials, I was able to get good results. Unfortunately, since Carrara is made up of many different plug-ins, there often is not consistency in how things work. You may need to adjust your mindset a bit and not try to use these plugins as you might other parts of Carrara. So far these seem to work as advertised and work well. BJ

This is gorgeous! As with Kix, it is just the water that looks odd. Would love to see it rendered with GI.

Thanks for the replies. As for the texturing issue that EricofSD brings up, I think TS has a brush tool for painting directly onto the model. C2 does not -- it just has the polygon layers that you can put on the model. I doubt the TS brush tool is as powerful as deep paint, though. I do think that the C2 shader trees are quite powerful and easy to use, though often hard to grasp all that can be done. I have to agree with some of the responses. TS offers lots of capabilities, and for the price, seems to offer more than C2, but I have not gotten used to the TS interface. It looks nice, but I have a hard time getting used to it. I like the properties tray in C, where you can see all the numbers. I often manipulate objects by typing in rotations, coordinates, and dimensions. In TS, I did not see how to keep this stuff easily accessible. Also the C modeling rooms make it easy to model with exact coordinate values and dimensions. I also like the easy hierarchical access to everything in the sequencer tray and with shaders. Perhaps I have gotten too used to the C interface and hesitate to give it up for something that may be better. I think TS 5.2 is a great deal at $300 (cross grade) or $400, and it feels like a more professional tool (though it still seems to be a niche tool compared to LightWave, Cinema4D, 3DMax, etc). The images in the Caligari gallery are beautiful, which speaks to the tool and the artists that use it.
Thread: Tutorial / helpful hints on importing Poser character to C2? | Forum: Carrara
I am not an expert, but I was playing around with this myself. I exported from Poser and set the option for grouped objects. When the model came into C2, I could expand in the sequencer tray and see the different parts of the model. In my case, the hair was named "neck". I selected "neck", went to the Shader room and the color texture was properly applied. I was able to add the transmap and get good results. I had a similar issue with the eyes. The eyes imported without texture, but I was able to select each eye, go to the Shader room and apply an eye texture map. As for eyelashes, the eyelashes were part of the head. I selected the head, went to the Shader room and applied the eyelashes transmap, but unfortunately, this didn't work. I am not sure why. These are my experiences -- if there is a tutorial or better methodology, I would be glad to see it.
