Thread: what is the best render program? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You may also wish to check out trueSpace 7.6 Which is now free, yes FREE ????!
http://www.caligari.com/default.asp
You REALLY DO have to check out this site.
This includes the lightworks renderer, and also supports a V-Ray option for $299
This is actually a very powerful modeling and rendering solution for a free download.
I'll have to check out Pov-Ray, I first used it about ten years ago, as command line only, I guess it's come on a bit since then :)
On the subject of which is the best renderer, I think as others have said it really depends on the user and what you want it for. It's not so much the size of the engine, It's really about who's driving it ;) and whether the controls suit your style, work method, and way you think.

I'm not too experienced in this cos I'm only just starting up P7. But you might want to do a google search for 'BVH Files' There are a few sites offering free downloads, one of them had a number of fight stances and animations. If they're not made specifically for Poser you will probably have to tweak the model's skeleton structure, but this may prove easier than animating from scratch. Hope you get a solution. Good luck.

ps:Quote - 6. This is just gobbledy gook with attricious grammar.
That's "attrocious". I am reminded of an old saying about glass houses and stones.
Agreed. Sorry about that! It didn't read back like I meant it. Apologies, please disregard 6. I tried to delete it but wasn't in time. Ooops!

To the uninformed viewer, sure. On the other hand, when you see GND2 wearing Aery_Soul clothes and hair, against a Bogwoppet backdrop, lit with RDNA lights, in a Martelo pose, with Antje photoshop filter ............
All this works great for those that don't recognize it, but when you do recognize all of it, or even a lot of it, it can under-impress.
LOL, :) :) :) :) :)

Some of the reasons the Fab 5 hates Poser.
1.It's cheating
2 It's to easy
3 Takes no skill
4 All the renders look a like
5 It's affordable
6 They took 3 months to model a untextured face they modeled that does not quit look right but you rendered a hole character in 10 minutes.
there frustrated beyond words they want there complete character looking correct.but 6 months for it is not practical but they done spent 3 months to get this far.
can not quit after 3 months but ya can't spend another 3 months on the same mesh.
Who's it cheating, art is is about art, not how it is produced. Whether its a top class render, or something made out of a pile of stuck together milk cartons, IF it is pleasing to the observer, it works.
It,s so easy. Well clearly it isn't, or we wouldn't have so many cases cited of 'crap renders'.
It takes no skill. As above.
All the renders look alike. Just like 'posers' playing with a more complex tool, but don't have the skills to use it.
It's affordable. As are top level tools to non-artists with rich dads.
This is just gobbledy gook with attricious grammar. I'd need to be a rocket scientist to understand it.
Poser is unashamedly nothing like as complex as the high end apps, nor should it be. It is however a potentially powerful tool, usable by those with a requisite skills to produce fine results.
It seems strange to me, ridiculas in fact, that in the case of poser, the very worst examples (and they are numerous I admit) are used to assess the apps abilities, while only the best examples are cited to assess the abilities of the high end stuff.
Surely it is more reasonable to assess ANY tool on the BEST work created with it, not the WORST.
Unless of course it is only about snobbery and spin. ;)
Thread: What's with the "excellent work!" in the galleries? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Any idea why those people do that?
Why do they do it anyway? Someone enlighten me so that I can understand this strange purpose and not get so annoyed by it. Are they just renderosity bots implemented to make me think I don't suck?
Perhaps it is just a form of Applause!
Not critique + or -

Thread: What's with the "excellent work!" in the galleries? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - That's the reason the "Critique Group" was formed because of people geting tired of the gushy praise for the sake of comments and hopefully garning a recipricol view of their gallery type comments.
Some people go through the gallery and comment on everything and everything...good or bad, with gushing praise comments, in the hopes that the person will have a look at their gallery and leave comments. It's their way of establishing a "network" to generate views anc comments.
I'd rather have 5 views and 5 really meaningful, honest comments than 1000 views and 200 fake ones. However, not everyone is like that. Many seem to measure their worth based on their popularity in the gallery. Not all... but many do.
When I view an image in the gallery of someone who is not a member of the "Critique Group", I spend time looking at the image, but will only comment if I really feel that the image has moved me in some way.
I will however always comment on someone's very first gallery upload in order to give them encouragement and let them know that they are doing well for a first upload. I will let them know what I like about the image and offer them suggestions on ways that they can improve it. Simply said... I treat them as members of the "critique group" and give them honest feed back, but in a more subtle way.
Fair!
I'm just getting back into Poser and CGI, so feel a bit of a newbie. But I was here at Renderosity back in 2000, so not that new maybe :)
I remember (a few years back) when I posted my first post to a 'community' I really did want feedback, if only to feel part of that community. I believe it is very important to communicate (feedback) but not all of us are artists, experts, or even if we are, we are not necessarily good at imparting critique. I did find, however, that the most annoying thing was being 'marked down' without explanation.
This is a great community with an unbelievable amount of talent. Talent, which over the years I have seen ploughed right back into the community.
Just remember that tomorrow's experts, are todays newbies, who without our support, may never evolve to move us all forward.
Yeah, critique group, yeah, definately awsome. Excellent idea!

Thread: Poser upgrade advice | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Crikey, I'm even more confused than ever now. :)
There seems to be a real mixed view on whether this new bunch are taking Poser in the right direction.
Thanks for all the tips though, I have now got my old P4 installation running again, along with the old models like V3 and M3. I have also installed the DAZ Studio thingy, but haven't really been able to make it fly yet.
I guess I need to find out more about the upgrades, since I unfortunately missed out on the P5 offer. Does 6 and seven work in a similar way, and have you got a good amount of control over textures, without rsorting to buying loads of 'nearly right' stuff. In P4 I used the ability to make my own textures in photoshop, extensively, to get exactly the right feel. Hopefully this will still work in the later versions, and would hope they should be much better. Presumably the rendering engine is more sophisticated with regard to how it deals with light, texture, reflection, diffuse and specular properties.
How does hair work with these, it is one thing I had the most difficulty with before.
Thanks again for tips and feedback.
Mmm! nice lips Angelouscuitry ;)
