There are 9 just released products for Pauline in Rendo marketplace, many of them developer's oriented. For the first time, I see third party traction on SM figures. Apparently, the nightmare of a market completely monopolized by DAZ and captive in the cloud is spurring content providers to action. "The more you tighten your grip...".
Now my boss wants to know what's so funny that I'm cracking up at my desk.
Seriously. Let's see this hot list tomorrow of those 9 items before you do the rallying cry and see if the public will pony up for Pauline-oriented goods or will Vickie 7 continue to toss her head into the wind cooing "If you're going to do a competition, you have actually show you want to compete."

Actually, the Unreal render isn't running in real time as you build scenes. It needs to be compiled first, then you move around the result:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7CTPS-5JsE
This makes sense, otherwise you would need a powerful computer and several video cards to run it.
I suspect however, a lot of work would be need to be done in poser to support the subset of rendering, just like DS basically ripped out their view port functionality for the IPR, the environment tab, the render settings tab, and the surfaces tab to allow multiple renderers and their different settings. Choosing a renderer gave you different sets of render settings, applying the iray shader gave you a different set of materials settings, shader mixer added in iray blocks, etc.

Same reason.
At rendo, there are a lot more poser users so they are using V4, but there are some pose and prop sets that have support for V4/V6 as well. There is also more outfits that fit Genesis 2 female here. Genesis 1 didn't catch on as well here. At DAZ, customer demand for Genesis 2 basically pushed V4 and Genesis 1 out of the store for the same reason, where the releases of Gen 4 stuff is few and far in-between. More prop sets and environments are DS native (.duf format rather than pp2) at DAZ as well.
Thread: Genesis 1 | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I'd look at it this way:
Content developers provide content for what the customers want.
So really the majority of customers dropped Genesis 1 like a hot rock when V6 arrived and it became unfeasible for vendors to keep supporting G1. Also the improvements of G2 (mainly the fact that vendors could visualize making female clothing on a female shape rather than the androgynous shape), brought vendors  (and customers) that held out on G1 into G2. So really I'd wouldn't be pissed at vendors for supporting what the majority of customers really wants.

ROFL, OK, I was talking over a period of time, but whatever you say. How long have you been watching the What's Hot page? Me? About 6 weeks......I see a trend. You have a single day snapshot, and V4 + Genesis products, now that's hysterical.Once again, I see a complete lack of facts.
Now it's a period of time? No I think I got it right and you got caught. ;) But it's all good. However, no matter how you want to adjust your argument, it's still not correct. We can walk through the products that were released in the 6 weeks and you'll see the same trend. The last dawn item I saw was a dress that was released maybe three weeks ago, may be one more item released. But there's been plenty of Genesis stuff released, that can't be denied no matter how you try to spin it.
Nice try though, but please fact check. You were off the chain with this one. Kudos. ;)

Quote - Here's one clue....take a look at the What's Hot page here. You'll see a whole lot more Dawn than you will Genesis on that page. Based on my observations (and that's all they are) Genesis at Renderosity does far worse than Dawn ever did. So, does that mean Genesis is a failure? Of course not. It's one store of many.
Ok, let's take a look at the hot page as you suggested. We'll walk through it together:
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/?sb=hottest
The top spot, "DM's Fairy Pavilion", which is a prop set with poses for V4 and V6. And the props are in both Poser and DAZ Native formats.Â
There's a few V4 items, as expected. The SAV Athena hair has V4, Dawn and Genesis fits. That's good.
Let's keep going.
Ok we have Sabby Brenda for V6, followed by OOT's leather suit for Genesis 2 females. No Dawn only products yet, but I'm sure she's here because you said that there's more Dawn stuff than Genesis. More V4 stuff, so she's good.
Ok now we have some M4 stuff, which is in short supply. PD Tom also has a support and a morph for the Genesis 2 Male (using the M4 morph). So there's another Genesis 2 item.
No Dawn items except for the hair fit on the first page? Didn't you say she was here? Oh well, let's try the second page.
More V4 stuff she's well taken care of, that's for sure :)
Ok there's a Tough Girls Pose set that supports V4 and V6, so there's another Genesis 2 item.Â
There's some props (I like the rundown shack btw) and V4 stuff.
SAV's alpha scalp is back in the hot list, with good reason... with M4,V4, Anastasia fits, and a native Genesis prop in duf format.. so there's another genesis item.
Then there's some boots for the Genesis 2 female by lilflame. Then more V4 and another M4 character.
No Dawn items on that page either.
Third page has more V4 stuff, then Beach Club hair for V4 and Genesis 2 females. No fits for dawn though. Also another OOT outfit for Genesis 2 Females is there.
Page 4? Yep, more V4 and Genesis 2 female items and no Dawn.
So I took your advice and unless Dawn is spelled G-E-N-E-S-I-S, I think your statement is incorrect, because I just walked you through the opposite of what you just said.

Quote - It should be self explanatory. There are no hoops to jump through to get V4 to work in Poser. There are many users who do not want to use anything but Poser, and many of them haven't upgraded to P9+.Â
(eta: x-posted the above w/ coleman)
Â
Then it's curious that several major vendors at rendo has hoop jumped to make V6 clothing, characters, poses and props over making things for native dawn. Some of those same vendors have set up shop over at DAZ too and not Hivewire. And some vendors that were staunchly against genesis have made items for them after their Dawn offering flopped and ended up on rendo's hot list a few weeks back.
Sounds like more people would rather hoop jump than load up Poser native Dawn.
Â
Quote - But there have been several sales of P10 and PP2014 with drastic cuts on the price, making it very affordable for those who weren't necessarily able to upgrade right away before. So that will naturally have broadened the user base of P10. There are also other websites that still have P9 and PP2012 for sale, and have at times cut the prices rather drastically, again increasing the userbase.Â
I got my upgrade to Poser 10 through a mac bundle (with 5 other mac programs) along with Anime Studio pro for $39.
That's like almost giving it away.
Quote - The difference with Poser is that you have to pay for your upgrades, and a lot of people don't upgrade right away. It takes them a good while to do so, either due to their finances or just not seeing anything that really stands out to them innitially. The economy hasn't been all that great for the last several years, so a lot of people can't afford upgrading software when they have other things in RL that are much more pressing.Â
I think the most important thing in upgrades is that people will upgrade, regardless of finances, if there is a compelling reason to do so. If there is a must have feature, people especially those of us that are addicted to buying content, we will find a way to scrape up that money to get the product. It sounds like Smith Micro isn't there yet. If my tipping point is $10 when I got it in a bundle of mac programs I wanted, I think that's a problem that SM needs to look at.
I think SM's focus is more on resusing their and 3rd party content: from the fitting room, SSS to make older figures look better, to the game edition where their whole 5gb library can be licensed for games. I don't think they're particularly focused on figures and from the way these threads pop up from time to time about figures, maybe they should divert a little attention to that and not rely upon others to fill that void.
That said, I think the Poser group may be reluctant to do it because developing a good versatile figure sounds like it's a huge investment to do. And with SM's largest division, mobile, on shaky ground I don't think they'll be able to ask for a lot of money to do it either.Â
Quote - So this is going to affect how well a new figure that requires that software is going to be recieved innitially. Vendors that attempted to incorporate the newer features into their content back when P9 was new, that are not supported by older versions, were likely not all that impressed with their sales early on so they gave up on it and went back to building content that was compatible with the last 10 years of Poser versions. Today their sales should be stronger for content with those features because there are many more users that have upgraded since then.Â
True, however failure is a strong motivator not to repeat doing something.Â
Quote - I don't think Dawn is a doomed figure. She still has a loyal following who are supportive of her development and her developers. But like Coleman said, it's going to take time for that appeal to grow. HW3D are still developing for her, so they must be making enough from her currently to consider it beneficial to continue.Â
I think the founders are pretty much in a position to burn through money because they are not necessarily reliant upon putting out product to make a living.
However the vendors are. I don't think Dawn was well received by the customers otherwise vendors would have kept releasing items for her. It looks like either those vendors either went back to V4, moved to V6 or are making items that work for both V4 and V6. There's an occasional Dawn item in the store, but the most support I've seen are hair fits.
And from looking at Hivewire's store, it looks like VanishingPoint has taken over. The first page is full of their back catalog you can get here. I'm thinking Hivewire has backed off its exclusivity clause because you can get the same things here as well as their own site as well. A good chunk of their items are props rather than figures. It seems like a lot of their major vendors that initially made product has went back over to DAZ, probably made more money there. The ones are left are a few that release over at contentparadise as well.

A default figure that has breasts that behave like breasts.
No-no, balloons do not count: Breasts.
You know? Like women have?
Before you start:
Please don't start spamming this thread with those figures that you want to use as examples.Â
We've seen them plenty. No one wants figures with those things otherwise you'd see them more in the marketplace.
Thank you.

Quote - > Quote - If AJC's have so much power, then why isn't it being used more? How many products on market use this feature? I am not arguing what it can or cannot do, but the practicality of its workflow and implementation, which does send people looking the other way.
For the same reason that half of my Dawn purchases follow Poser 6 conventions instead of Poser 9+. Too many vendors are unwilling to leave Poser 6 conventions behind; nor are they willing to learn the features that have been added to the last 3 or 4 versions of Poser.Â
In my conversations with vendors over the past couple of years, they have made it quite clear that they don't care what features have been added to Poser - they aren't going to use them, lest they annoy the few remaining Poser 6 holdouts. Pointing out that Dawn is a Poser 9+ figure and these theoretical Poser 6 users can't actually use Dawn doesn't matter to them.
It's dumb, but imo, it is what happens when vendors decide that it is all about their experience rather than the customer's experience.
I don't know about that. I've seen a few vendors attempt to make items that were for Poser 9+, for example Sixus, but currently he's back to making items for Poser 7-8 compatiblitity. Is that because he was unwilling to learn the new features, or no one was buyng his 9+ creations?
It is curious though that there hasn't been many people that has morphed Dawn into characters beyond toons.

Quote - No, there aren't "many" ethnic characters, AmbientShade. - I own almost all of them :p
We only make Caucasian characters because Caucasian characters are popular and they are popular because we only make Caucasian characters. This is called a positive feedback loop.Â
OTOH, that doesn't seem to matter to vendors - look at all the vendors that do not make male clothing in 2014 because they had a poorly received article of male clothing in 2004. Which ties into why I have no interest in listening to their whining about low sales.Â
LOL, so let me ask you, if you have bills to pay are you going to do the job that makes the money or the one that doesn't simply because someone that has no idea how the job market works (and maybe has no job or expenses) says so?
You may not have interest in hearing about vendors making low sales on the things that you want, but then again the bill collectors have no interest about hearing people whine about not having money to pay the bills. Conversely I think the worker has no interest in someone that says they the should make no money when they have no idea how to do their job.
I think your argument that you repeat so many times have no rational basis in reality. People work to make money to pay their expenses. People can't do jobs that can't cover their expenses, unless they like to live on the street. You can't do it, so I'm not sure why you would asks vendors to; and I'm sure if someone told you to do a particular job (to make them feel better) which meant you would be broke and not pay bills, you would tell them to go jump in a lake. That's pretty much how life works for everyone.
Like any free market system, if there's a demand for it, then people will make it. If there's no demand, then it's not made. I think you can stand on a soapbox and complain that vendors don't do certain things, but I think it's the buying public you should be pointing your finger at. If you see lots of caucasian girls, erotic poses, strip clubs and skimpy clothing in a store, it's because that's what's opening up the customers' wallets. If you want something different, then probably you should pay someone up front to do it for you. It will cost you way more, but at least you have the stuff you want; make sure you have a job that pays for what you want to do, just like the vendors. :)
Quote - Are you really pushing the idea that the folks making NVIATWAS renders are the only demographic that matters?  If that is the direction that 'Rosity is going, my money and I will probably migrate to other storefronts.
The paying customers push this idea, not vendors. Remember: demand determines market. In order for vendors to make what you want, there needs to be a compelling demand to do so. One person wanting a black male and 1800's school teacher outfit is not going to sway vendors as much as hundreds of people with their wallets open wanting another bra and panty set with expose morphs and a big breasted caucasian female character. That's simply how the market works. If you want that to change, you have to shift the customers to want the same thing because they hold the power. You can try another store, but they're all selling the same thing, so your runtime is still going to be devoid of the stuff you want.
Quote - The more skills I learn because of vendor intransigence, the less I need storefronts like Renderosity. Â Which is why like other folks in this thread, my purchases at 'Rosity are moving more to things like sets & props and away from characters and clothing.
I think this is probably the route you should take. If you need characters and clothing vendors can't afford to make, maybe you should learn to make them yourself. I'm guessing that's how some vendors got started: making things no one else wanted to make and carving a niche for themselves. Maybe you could become a vendor and see how vendor life actually is, not how you think it should be. I don't know, but I bet it would be an eye-opening experience for you. ;)
Thread: Problem in the Fitting Room with M4-K4 mixed models | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - I think the confusion over the naming conventions between V4 and M4 and subsequent instances of the same figures, is due to V4's name being Victoria4, while M4's actual name is Michael 4.Â
Do you notice the difference? There is no space in V4's full name.Â
So, if you load a 2nd instance of M4 into the scene, unless you change the name yourself it is going to automatically renumber Michael 4 to Michael 5, Michael 6, Michael 7, etc. Whereas with V4, because of the different naming convention used, it will add a space followed by the 1, 2, etc. IIRC, Poser's method of renumbering figures (or adding numbers to figures) has to do with how ERCs function and the old problems with eliminating cross talk in conformers.
So there is no need for a bug report as Poser is renumbering as intended. The fault here does lie with Daz's naming conventions not remaining consistent between the figures.
I think that's incorrect. Following your logic, if it renumbering was correct, the figure should have been renamed "Michael 4 1", Michael 4 2" and so on as it should simply add a number on the end to make them unique, not replace the number with something else. The way something is originally named shouldn't have a bearing on how it's made unique in a scene simply due to a space. That's like programming 101 that's being messed up. Sounds like a programming bug. Names and spacing shouldn't mess a program up at all when imported.Â
Quote - They didn't even bother to change the name of Hiro 4 or Freak 4 in the cr2's, as loading them in with two M4's in the scene, Hiro's name will be Michael 6, and Freak's name will be Michael 7 (or the like, depending on what sequence they are loaded in).Â
Hiro 4, Freak 4 are morphs of Michael 4, not separate characters files like they were in DAZ generation 3 characters, so that's why the name in the cr2 name is the same. They use the same CR2 for the figure and subsequent morphs using that script you have to run each time you buy an addtional character.
EDIT: as a side note, my job is in data conversions when people buy our sales order systems. If I were to use the logic presented here, I would have been reprimanded by my boss for incorrecting importing product names because I've just purposely changed the product name. (which messes up reporting and accounting) That's why it seems like an importing error to me. In my case, these would be flagged in an exception report, rather than change the product name to something else.

Have you tried the hair on a different genesis character? The Justin and Julie characters have issues with the eyebrow morph getting transferred into hair. I would check to see if there's any morphs dealing with the eyes added in the hair and set to 1 and set it back to zero.

Vinyl is both a physical and analogue format, superior to digital in both respects, and that's why it'll survive CD, SACD, or any other digital format. Vinyl never went away, it was only discarded by those who must have the latest plaything (a lot of those people are now regretting it and returning to real Analogue audio on Vinyl) - so Vinyl lives on - and it is now picking up pace yet again.
The sales and model releases of brand new Turntables are on the up, and the sheer amount of weekly new releases on Vinyl is further proof of the trend. On the DJ scene, some venues (usually the the really classy ones) won't let you anywhere near the 'buseness end' of their venue unless you use real Vinyl.
Last but not least, Vinyl is sooooooooo much cooler than a digital rig as is demonstrated in the attached photo.. But yup, Vinyl is far superior to any CD out there, and those that can't tell or think it's the other way around, really should invest in better quality audio gear.
I don't think vinyl will not catch on beyond the afficiando and hobbyist groups due to the portability of the digital formats. Vinyl requires storage space; with many storefronts closed due to digital downloading and CDs, you'll only find vinyl in specialty shops which are out of the way and out of the reach of the masses. DJs may use vinyl in their mixing at home, but they won't go to any clubs with it, because most of the larger clubs don't have vinyl mixers, they have CD turntables. It's doubtful those clubs you describe have on Vinyl turntables, because you only have to think about guest DJs showing up with boxes of albums instead of a binder of CDs (and the better ones have their macbooks loaded with DJ software) to see that argument doesn't make sense.
Several of my friends are club DJs and attend the various music conferences and no one is carrying boxes of vinyl albums with them, but they certainly have their CD binders with them ready in case they're asked to hit the turntables.

Did you morph the feet as well? It looks like the character is poking through the shoes as well in both the front and back. Did you test your morph with clothes on? Did you test how the morph looks when you do different poses? You still have lots to do on your morph before you start texturing, especially if you're considering selling it. It probably needs lots of JCMs and corrective morphs. I think you'll eventually find out that you generally will only make custom heads for only Poser characters and not full body morphs, because unless customers have Morphing Clothes or Poser Pro 2014, no one can use the morph with clothing.... though I'm guessing this morph is not made to have any clothes on.
Thread: Meet Video Vixens Chessie 1.0 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
What program are you using to make the morphs? I think you need to go back and smooth out all those jagged edges throughout her body (and breasts) and fix the body where it's bending at the elbows and knees. And it looks like her breasts are smashed instead of rounded. Look at the right breast and see how the area below the nipple is flat and slightly pointed.
Also unless people have a copy of Morphing Clothes or Poser Pro 2014, they won't be able to clothe the figure with that custom morph. Any clothing will just poke right through unless they're using dynamcis. Thing about morphing V4 or any poser character is that you can create custom head morphs with generally no issue, but you can't morph the body unless a vendor is supporting your product with custom fits in their clothing.
