Hey, thanks for the replies... as I said, all of this is worth putting up with, it would just be nice if we didn't have to put up with it!
Thread: Poser User Interface Stability? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Re: page file problems - no I have not had this problem in over a year - I adjusted the systems accordingly. One thing I have noticed that seems to make things worse is doing a "COPY" from the render window and then pasting into another application like Adobe Photoshop, which I should have mentioned, I often run at the same time for post work. Maybe I should do the Photoshop on another machine and keep one machine just doing Poser?

Thanks for the reply! My problems became much worse after going to ProPack. I have used your method of closing Poser down and restarting frequently - but when you're in the middle of an iterative, creative session - I sometimes forget to do this, with usually disasterous results, since I also forget to do constant saves, since they take so long! I again, most of this can be worked around, and I was more disciplined, I would have fewer problems, but then again, it would be nice if the program worked (!) :)

Thread: Dear Curious Labs, won't it hurt to add SMP support for multi-processor system | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
i thought it was such a great post, i had to submit it twice. sorry, i thought my connection died, and I re-clicked submit and didn't check!

Really, though, when an application is going to be routinely requiring hours of compute time to complete a job (as in animation renders), it is really strange to me that SMP and Network support is not included. It clearly limits what you can realistically accomplish. It's as if Curious does not want to compete with some other product that DOES support larger animation renders, or they plan to offer this as an add on product. But it is sorely needed... Lou
Thread: Just got Poser 5, its slow, really really slow but I don't care really. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I am running P5 on a 1400 Mhz Pentium IV with 1 GB memory, and 2x120 GB 7200 RPM disks... Since some people say it's fast - and some say it's slow, it's got to be some sort of a config issue! (I hope!) Lou

I'd like to hear from some folks who are running on 2+ Ghz Pentiums - to see if makes any difference... I fully understand why the new redering engine can be slower, and why some of the new functions may be slow. But I do not understand why just clicking around the menus is so much slower - and why some people say they don't see this problem.
Thread: I got a question, I hope someone can answer....regarding Poser 5 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Very interesting... I installed P5 on a 1400 Mhz Intel P-IV w/ 1GB memory, 240 GB disk and W2K Pro SP2 - with Poser 4 installed on it - all on the C drive. P5 is extremely slow (I am not referring to renders, etc - just going around the menus). The P4 renderer under P5 is about 3 times slower than P4 running on an identical machine next to this one. I have not found any references in the manuals to "performance".

Machine: Intel P4 1400 Mhz, 1 GB memory, 2 120GB disks OS: Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 What I have noticed is the following: - with one Judy loaded and one article of clothing - slow performance through the menus (like Poser4 with 10-20 figures loaded) - hang up of parameter dialog windows, then lingering dead parameter dialog windows, then total hangup of the program. I am not doing anything fancy here, just playing around, yes before reading the manual, I admit. Honestly there appear to be some "stability problems" here, though new features look impressive. I am not too fond of the strand based hair yet though - it looks "wet" to me, though I am sure someone will figure this out...

Since we've had kids we rarely get to watch anything except animated television :) - but I've got to say I've become a huge fan of the PPG's... There is a lot of very sharp humor in there, and the kiddies seem to enjoy it as well. :)

Are you turning on "full rendered" mode in the Animations? By default, all animation renders are in display mode. A good way to tell if you've got the right mode turned on is if the render is quick or slow (he he he)... As for compression... I have, for the most part been doing renders in "uncompressed" AVI, editing them in Premier and letting Premiere do the compression. I found this avoids a lot of problems, as long as you have the disk space. Lou

Actually, I just checked the one I downloaded were right here in Freestuff - I just did a search for bay window and one cropped up for Poser... I used it in a scene shot from the inside out, and it worked very well... Sorry for the confusing suggestion at first! /ljj

I am pretty sure there is a good one in the Architecture section at http://www.3dcafe.com/asp/meshes.asp (3D Cafe)... /ljj
