Brian this is one of the rare times when the spline modeler can get you some pretty complex shapes without too much work - if you already have your paths set up in Illy or Draw.
Sort of like nurbs modeling in MOI or Rhino, but you can push it to far and Carrara will choke.

Thread: Some Rendering Tips I Found (C7) | Forum: Carrara
Quote - Very good tips BUT Carrara will not start a render from where its stoped (only for frames in an animation), If you stop a render this stopped frame will be lost.
If you are rendering a single frame still image and do it from the batch queue you can press the pause button - the render will resume where it left off - even if Carrara and or the system has been shut off and restarted.

You could use a Track modifier.
Set up your master - then duplicate it and rename.
make the clone "Track" the rotation of the master.
Each clone you duplicate from the second copy will have the track modifier already set to track the master.
Rotate the master and all the dupes will follow, rotating around their own local centers.

Thread: multi threading suddenly stopped working | Forum: Carrara
There is an option in the render room - under the render tab to turn it on and off.
Maybe it turned off for some unknown reason.
Other than that, I have no clue.

Thread: V4 In 3DSMax --- Need some advice and tips..... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Well, these are things you know how to do. You are at a turning point. You are not satisfied with what you can do in Poser, and you need to learn new things in order to progress. You can learn to bring the Poser content into a different application and adapt it to your vision, which is not at all a trivial task unless you are lucky enough to have a vision that is the same as the Poser content you're starting with; or you can learn the skills required to realize your vision yourself. Both paths will require a lot of skill, but only one of them leaves you with something that is completely your own when you travel down that path.
You will also be completely dependent on other people when your vision changes, or when you want to realize some new vision. You will be the proverbial man handed a fish. While there are many helpful people and you will likely always get handed some fish, it may be a herring when you really wanted a salmon, or even a tuna. I hope you like herring, because you will have little choice unless you learn to fish for yourself. Herring is pretty good though, and there is a lot of it available, so that's okay.
You can learn this stuff, or that stuff, take your pick.
Very well laid out post, good stuff.

Quote - whkguamusa,
The script let's you work with a "driver mesh" and a "render mesh"
The rendermesh is skinwrapped over the driver mesh so typical you animate with a low res driver mesh and render the animation with the high res.
Therefore no viewport slowdowns.
Sounds like a good way to go. Does it also drive blendshapes/morphs for facial animation & cover hair/cloth sims on the low res driver?

Quote - Operaguy,
i think youre best option would be to use Paul Hormis Hyperriger.
Not only is paul one of the better riggers in the business, his scripts are one of the best solutions if you rigging for biped.
The hyperrigger script sets up a fully rigged solution with a very nice deformation system.
I use the scripts myself and the deformations you get out off it with V4 are the best you can get.
Trust me , you do not get the same results by weighting her by hand.
BTW weighting in max is done mostly with the skinmodifier instead of Physique.
How is viewport interaction when animating with a complex rig applied to the full rez v4 mesh?
I don't have max, in xsi things slow down a good deal with one of the advanced rigs thrown on her. Otherwise she is fine with a simple skeleton enveloped and deforming the mesh.

You can also keyframe the particle velocity over time to get it to spurt.

Thread: Exporting Carrara to XSI | Forum: Carrara
Quote - Vue uses billboards for trees which cuts way down on poly counts. Maybe Carrara will have that feature one day. Or one could model their tree in XSI.
One really good modeled tree in a scene is better than having many randomly generated and not so well modeled ones.
Carrara has billboards now.
Shouldn't be too hard to Render a tree - place the bitmap on the billboard and then replicate a forest of billboard trees.

Until they add the "real" option you may be able to do it with an inverted shadow on the light cone, look here about midway down the page:

Thread: How to insert light at a certain time in timeline. | Forum: Carrara
The doctor has it.
You can also change the tweener type from the default "Linear" to "Discrete" so change will go from 0 to 100% with no interpolated frames "in-be-tween" key frames.

Thread: Figure falls thru ring | Forum: Carrara
Collision detection will not stop key framed animation (bvh) from intersecting other props.
You will need to open up the f-curve editor for the falling figure and locate the position keys that cause the bodyparts to pass through the ring and adjust them until the contact looks right. Won't be fun with bvh having keys on every single frame.
