Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 22 8:51 pm)
I'm testing to see if people will have less trouble when I use an installer. The biggest problem is misplaced files. I hope an installer will solve this. That's probably why DAZ does it that way. If you want manual control just specify a folder outside your poser folder to install to then you can Drag n' Drop as with a zip file.
FYI the installer I use is an "Package for the Web" from InstallShield. It is essentially a self extractor on steroids. It does not alter the registry or create an uninstaller entry. All you lurkers, chime in. I'd (we'd) really like to know if you love, hate or don't care about installers for Poser stuff.
my $.02... I'm not going to keep paying monthly auto insurance premiums, then stop driving my car because there is a small chance that at the next intersection some malicious idiot will pull out in front of me. On the same note, I'm not going to keep paying upgrade fees to Norton, or anybody else, then not use certain files because there's a small chance that some malicious idiot has put a virus in it. instead, you drive the car, using all of its safety features, being careful of what you're doing, and being wary of what everyone else is doing.... but not so wary that you never get out of the garage. If someone is offering something that I want only in a self-extracting .exe, then I'll grab it, scan the hell out of it, and if that's negative.. run it. Especially from a respected member of this community who has given us numerous quality items in the past. If, after all this, something undesirable is unleashed on your computer, you know who did it and how to find them. Hunt them down and sodomize them with a telephone pole. And restore your system from your backups.... You DO backup, don't you? And, like I said, I'll only follow this philosophy on those 'streets' that I'm somewhat familiar with. Take it 'off-road' and you naturally run a greater risk of damaging your vehicle. sorry... I like analogies. Had a few more... fire/smoke detectors, health insurance, etc... but decided to go with the car.
Zips are good, but PLEASE properly path'ed zips. Not zips starting anywhere but Runtime and not zips without paths.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
