Hey, I was working on a station model for the ship I posted earlier and I thought it would be cool to show you guys how Wings3D works, looks and feels. It's a neat little freeware program that you can make meshes with, found here on the forums a while ago. It was love at first sight, considering that it was so easy to use and so powerful. It does have a minor drawbacks, but in general it's great for making models and then exporting them either as 3ds or obj's. It does have GL rendering powers, and I'm pretty certain that you can even do animations with it, but it seems to lack the power for serious renders (and you can't apply imported textures to it, or at least not from what I learnt out of it). Like I was saying, I made this model, as you can see, basically out of a cube for the middle portion, a sphere for the top, and another shphere for the dish. The basic commands allow you to bump, inset, extrude, bevel, and these are for the points, lines and faces of the mesh. You can also smooth, delete entire portions of the mesh, etc. If anyone wants the space station, it's about 99% complete and I'll probably add it to the freebies section soon. Was just wondering if it was any good and what you guys thought of it :) Cheers! Drac

Thanks for the link draculaz.

That does indeed look cool, not to mention fun! I guess I'll have to wait until I upgrade to Jaguar though since I still only have OSX 10.1.

I dare you, while there is still time, to have a magnificent obsession. --William Danforth

Wow! Excellent job!

thanks groin, now mind you, the screen capture is actually a composite of two POV's of the same model. Normally you'd only have one view of the model, which can be adjusted quite easily with the mouse :)

Cool model. How does wings 3D go about modelling? Do you start with a primitive and split sufraces and extrude them etc. Or do you 'draw' the model with lines and connect the lines to create polygons.

A beautiful and quite functional looking model draculaz! You are doing intricate and very impressive work with a FREEWARE app! I have downloaded Wings 3D and hope someday I can approach the level of your results.
