I have been trying to get some 3ds models into poser for the longest time. I got the stuff I want to download from the link. I am trying to get the jedi fighter to go into poser. I don't have 3ds. Any way, I try to import it like normal but nothing gets imported into poser! In desperation I got the crossover program to convert it into obj. It worked good eccept whan I imported the obj it was all distorted. Plz tell me how to import it into poser. Step by step. If I need another program let me know. Also if there is a way to get max files into poser plz let me know. Thank you so much. I am so frustraited.

I am at wits end here! If someone here knows how to export things from 3ds or max into an obj format plz let me know. I would like to ask a favor if you don't mind. I can't get the stuff to work for me but if you have 3ds or max you just may be able to do it. I need someone to open the stuff up in there program and make it look like it should and then export it in obj so that I can use it in poser. If you are interested plz email me at lovedtwice@worldnet.att.net . I will let you know what all I need. Thx.

The file you are trying to import in 3DS format may be corrupt. If you are doing it the way it is illustrated above and the file is indeed in 3DS format (with the 3DS extension), Poser should import it if you select 3D Studio from the Import list. If it isn't working, then there must be something wrong with the original file. I have the same problem with files with the MAX extension. I don't have 3DS Max so I can't convert them either, and sometimes files I want are in this format.

Thx, I guess I will try to download them again. Not every thing from the site is doing this. I got the awing and a cople other things. But I have downloaded the ones I need many times and it never works. Oh well here is hopeing.

I remember reading once that there are many kinds of 3ds files and that some just aren't Poser-friendly. I suspect that some of the import failures that I've experienced are due to that, and I wouldn't be surprised if your problem is similar. If anyone knows a way to 'fix' a Poser--unfriendly file, I hope they post it here.

I have had problems with a few, I import into a modeling program then export it out to what I want. But, I have 3 or 4 free modelers installed and not all of them will work, have to try them all, with a little luck one will work. The Modeling Forum has a few free ones listed. Tashar 59

Thx everyone, I got alot of the things fixed now. Seems some of the downloads were corrupted. But the ONE ship I need the most still doesn't load. It is the jedi fighter. If someone could turn it into an obj plz let me know. Thx alot. I almost have every thing I need now.

The Jedi Fighter I see at the link is a MAX file - as far as I know you'll have to plunk down a couple of grand for MAX cause the format is proprietary. You're best bet is to ask someone over at the 3DS MAX forum to translate it for you.

I ran it through Max 4, resaved in 3DS excluding the lighting elements then used Deep Exploration to convert to OBJ. Some normals are reversed but it renders ok. If you still need it please drop me an email.
