Hello everyone, I'm sort of new here but I want to say what a wonderful place this is. Everyone is so generous with their advice and creations and its truly inspiring. I have downloaded many things, (and kept the "readme's" so I can give credit and ask permission :-), and read many posts and it has been so helpful to me in my learning process. I've only had poser and other 3-D programs for a short time but have learned so much by coming here. I'm hoping some day to give back to you all. desperately trying to learn how to make clothing (mainly of the fantasy genre--is it possible to make them in RayDream? Are there any tutorials that cover this specifically?). However, I'm on a Mac and it sounds like a lot of you are on PCs. Will pc users be able to use anything I post (when that wondrous day happens) or shall I state that whatever I post is for Mac only. Also I noticed that most textures are in Quicktime. Is there a reason for this. Will other formats work such as tiff? Again, thanks to all of you. Whew! I noticed I managed to sneak a lot a questions in this post.

Quicktime? The textures are usually in .JPEG or .TIFF Go to the Poser FreeStuff Utilities section and download MartinC's Maconverter. It will help you convert from PC to MAC and MAC to PC. There are other useful utilities there as well. The Poser4 Manual has some basic figure creation tutorials and you also might want to take a look at the tutorials section listed on the sidebar. Take a look at www.bushi3d.com , you'll find good tutorials there as well. -JH.

Clothing issue. In ray dream yes go to the tutorails section on the right for the most part you can make them for mac and PC because poser and bryce file formats are the same. the caveat for PC or MAC only is the zip format (.sit or .zip) Textures: yes other formats will work the QT format for a picture (pict or whatever) is the equivalent to a jpeg on a PC(all image formats are universal except the windows bmp file) Welcome to the community! :] -DA

Thanks for the welcome. And yes, I've done tutorials from manual, advanced and from this page. I know part of the problem is I'm new at this. But things are starting to click. Its just way too much fun and absorbing. Thanks for the imput. Although, I thought I read in a post somewhere, that MacConverter converts from PC to Mac but not from Mac to PC. Clarification anyone?

That's true. I don't know of any that can do a backwards conversion

MacConverter will translate both ways, read the "read me" that coumes with it. You will need to use this for most all "PC" files regardless. This converter creates a specilal code within the file that the MAC OS needs (like the PC needs the RSR file). As for QT, your graphic files "looK" like they are Quicktime because thats the extension insatalled on your machine which recognizes the files. You should also get a copy of Graphics Converter, it will open-up around 100+ different grarhic files including the special BUM files Poser uses for bump maps.

Yeah, MacConverter works in both ways, is easy to use, very stable, and it's free. I can't live without it ;-) If you're downloading images, textures and the like with a Mac, Netscape (or whatever Browser you're using) sets the "Creator-Tag" to Quicktime by default. So you can open the file with the QT PictureViewer (which comes with QT) by double-clicking it. For use in Poser/Bryce etc. you don't need to convert it in any way! This is true as long as Quicktime can handle the graphic format: PICT, JPEG, TIFF, BMP, GIF, and many more. T. Lemke's GraphicConverter is a very usefull shareware app! It converts from (almost) any graphic format to (almost) any other, is a good picture viewer/browser, converts ASCII text (Mac <-> DOS <-> UNIX and some more), and comes with some basic paint features, so you don't need to open Photoshop or similar "monster app" for every little change.

Oh believe me, I've practically worn out my MacConverter converting PC files ;-) I just didn't know if it would work the other way around. Thanks for all the advice.
