I have packaging, fixing up the PNG/RSRs, writing up the README, testing, and submitting. Package to include:
  • Figure
  • 2 Textures, 1 multi-file Bumpmap
  • 8 MAT Poses
  • 12 SETTING poses to set limits on and off by body section
(I think this is a new idea, BTW)
  • 2 REFLECTION MAT Poses (sets only the reflection map used)
  • 21 Hand Poses
  • 17 Body Poses
  • Figure includes Morph Dial for fading out the ambient light in the face

Annnd... Poses! These are custom-made poses designed to resemble many of the common ones you get with other figures. (Due to the not-so-human body structure, figure does not work well with very many poses designed for other characters, so I have included several Same with the hands but I only get three pics for the marketplace and that's what these pics will be.) As a note, except for compositing and the drawing, none of the images I've posted in this thread contain any postwork whatsoever.

I like the Scud "Heartbreaker" texture. :) Even though your droid doesn't look much like Scud (other than the spindly legs), it somehow reminded me of him, from the moment I saw the conceptual drawing.

Ahhhhh! This so cool! The perfect anime enemy, hope ya don't mind if I line 'em and fire away. LOL!... it's on my wish list.

This image was rendered in Max frmo an OBJ export of JICC in the included Dodge pose using raytraced materials. While I cannot guaranty it, as I do not have the programs, I'd imagine people who render in Vue, P5 Firefly, and Bryce could get similar results. I had to plug in the shoulder inside texture as a shoulder inside reflection map and use the PPP bumpmaps (of course) for all of these, and I had a little work setting up modifications of the Max standard raytrace library materials used to match up, but it only took about 10 minutes to set up all the materials for this and about 5 to render it.

All the required bits of a good droid are there in this figure, as defined by the Corellian Android Manufacturer's Guidelines:

  • Joints that make sense
  • Hydraulics that you're not sure what they do but they look cool
  • Humanoid shape
  • Built-in weaponry
  • Humanoid hands despite the fact that there are better manipulation designs possible with non-organic devices
  • Things that look like exhaust pipes (in the head assembly)
  • exposed parts so you can see greeblies
  • lit funtion and power indicators despite the fact that the robot could simply query the devices internally
  • vague resemblance to a household appliance*

B^) * For reference, R2-D2 looked a bit like either a rubbish bin with a fliptop lid or a shop-vac, V.I.N.CENT, ahead of his time, a bit like a modern CD boom box, the Gonk Droid like an air conditioner, C-3P0 had what now appears to have been a CD player in his midsection, and Robbie the Robot, of course, resembled a jukebox.

_dodger ( ) posted Wed, 12 February 2003 at 3:10 PM

Oh, yeah -- JICC here, well, his chest sort of vaguely resembles a fancy designer bidet, while his right forearm is a bit like a toaster and his left like a half-disassembled portable television set. His shins are reminiscent of coffee grinders.

GraphicFoxx ( ) posted Wed, 12 February 2003 at 4:51 PM

"...his right forearm is a bit like a toaster..." Actually, put a few holey grooves in there, and it's a stand up cheese-grater! So with this coming out soon, is your 'jedi' nearly ready as well? Very cool work though man. I'll definitely be buying JICC as soon as he's released :)

The Space Knight set is on hiatus, pending a redesign of the mesh because the old one just wasn't doing what I wanted it to. I don;t know how soon I will be able to get back to it.
