Subject: Really Need Some Advice

Please please please..... I've posted a few threads these past few weeks about my on going struggles with not being able to have more than two characters on the screen when working with a V3 character or 2+ Michael/V2 characters. I think it's a problem with the memory. I keep getting a message that claims Poser can not find the bump map. Yet when I single out each character, I don't get this message. I have heard of dial cleaner and IBP(sp?) from DAZ. But I am not doing still poses, I am creating animation. I have a Mac G4 with 756 MB of RAM. Does anyone have any suggestions that could help me get around these problems? How can I reduce the size of my V3 or other figures easily if possible? Can I easily get rid of dials if I'm doing animation? Am I screwed? Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks to those whom have helped me in the past. Thanks - Mako -

Dail cleaner won't reduce the amount of memory used in a V3 character, it will just remove the unused morph dials. If you want to reduce the size of V3, only load in the morphs you need to use. Afraid I can't offer any more help, as I'm not familiar with the Mac version.

I use Win98 with 850Hz CPU and 512meg Ram: 2 or 3 Milpeople are about all I can get into a scene at once, especially if you want them clothed. The work around I use is by making several identical scense and puting just 2 or 3 charaters in each one, then merge it all together in Photoshop. When the gallery comes back up you can take a look at a couple in my gallery, I have one with 3Mikes, 3or4Vickies, a Stephanie, Heavy horse, and some P4s all in one scene with clothes. All together it was about 6 or 7 rendered scenes.

I don't have a Mac so didn't pay attention to the details; however, there's been posts on increasing memory allocation for Mac platforms in the past. You should try a forum search and see what comes up.

If you are running under OS9, you can easily allocate more memory to Poser (or any other app). Single click on Poser icon so that it is selected, but not activated. Go up to File > Get Info > Memory. You will find suggested size, minimum size and preferred size. The last 2 items are in boxes where YOU can type exactly how much you want to feed it. For example, you should keep about 100K clear for the operating system and miscellaneous tasks. I've alloted 60K for PhotoShop6, but usually don't have it going at the same time that I'm in Poser. That still leaves 240K for Poser (I have half the RAM you do). You need 200K if you are running any of the millenium figures. They sulk otherwise. For multiple Vicky3's, try 500K and see if they are happier. NOTE: I haven't yet installed OSX on this box, and so can't help with that system. Carolly

IPB will strip out unnecessary morphs from V3. You save your morphed figure to the library and load it into IPB. IBP will give you a pose or a face file that will load only the necessary morphs and spin the dials for you. I tried with a few and they actually became smaller than Vicky 2.
Memory and OSX: I did it as trial-and-error. Give Poser all the memory you have minus 100K or something. Try to start it. If it works - fine. Otherwise lower the amount of memory a bit and try again. The OSX programs will take care of themselves and they will always work.

Best tip I can think of for V3 is inject only the morphs you need. The fewer you inject, the smaller she'll be. You don't have that option with the Mikes or V1 or 2. I've successfully used v3's at around 10 megs, a third the size of M2 or V2.

Okay so I got IPB from DAZ, saved my morph figure (without any props) into my lirbrary and tried opening it in IPB and a window called "INJectionPoseBuilder.app.out" pops up. There are several things in this window that pop up (looking at files I presume) but it always says MemoryError at the end and doesn't do anything after that. Any thoughts? Thanks - Mako -

In the Pose library in the folder "!DAZ's Victoria 3" there's a pose called "!IPB Prep.pz2". Did you apply this to your character before you saved it? It strips away all the morphs but keeps the dial settings. You will see V3 changing back to her usual self but that's OK. I tried to use IPB on a figure without using IPB Prep first and I got exactly the window you're talking about.
