Subject: Experience With The Set-Up Room... WEIRD! (And some thoughts as well...)

Hello there... just did the set-up room for the first time... anyway.... here's what I did before that... 1. I made my model in Poser with all the necessary changes that I wanted (making the face have the look I want to, putting it in the "zero position".. etc) 2. I exported it into a .OBJ file and imported it in Lightwave.. (I didn't pay much attention to the options hehe) 3. As I opened it, I made my "shoulder pad" where I wanted and saved the shoulder pad as an OBJ file. Now I went back to using Poser... 1. I loaded up my saved model... 2. Just for safety, I used the Joint Editor again to make sure that my model is in the "zero position". 3. I imported my "shoulder pad" and unchecked those things... (so that it will be in position just where I placed it in Lightwave) ***Now here is where I encountered some weird stuff.... 4. I went to the Set-Up room and then loaded the figure I originally used (a don model) 5. The skeleton showed up and it's fine, everything's in place.... 6. I clicked the "Group" tool and then in the menu that showed up, I clicked on "AUTO GROUP" 7. There was a red part in my "shoulder pad", then I clicked on "WELD" 8. I checked what happened in the POSE ROOM... then I saw the weird contorted shoulder pad! So what I think I found out was... a. The Set-up Room is only to be used with "flowing" dress things... b. If you try to use a "hard" thing hoping that it would stay in place, it would just... uhm... seem to do the "clotify" effect and your object will suddenly become a "flowing" dress.... So what I did next, after playing around was........ I simply set my "shoulder pad's" parent to the left shoulder. It's fine now...... But then what if I made a Trench Coat or any type of dress in a 3D Modelling proggie, then I wanted to turn it into a conforming dress using Set-up.... how do I go about grouping it into the "bones" when I think only one accessory at a time can be assigned per bone? I imagine another warped trench coat.... hope to hear from your thoughts on the matter... thanks again in advance people!=)

Dont think you can use the setuproom for making conforming clothes. My way: I split the clothmesh in different bodyparts and give the parts the corresponding posername in my modellingproggie ( you can do the same in poser with the groupingtool) than export the cloth as .obj . than i use a "conforming program" ( you can buy in the mp here, not very expensive) and it makes the rest. you can also do the last part without another program if you follow the link you find a tut under "Goodies" "poser"

heyas; good lord! somebody who USES my tutorial??????!! ::FAINT!:: some tips: 1: do not zero and export your figure from poser. just load the figure's base obj directly into lightwave. (er, you don't need the face in lightwave to model clothing onto your figure ;) ) 2: do not load the base figure into the scene if you're going to use the setup room. load your figure, jump into the setup room, then load the base figure into THERE, to inject the skeleton. 3: for the love of sanity, do NOT use the grouping tool, and ESPECIALLY do NOT use the auto group feature!! ::shudder:: :) 4: the contorted shoulder pad is simply a victim of joint parameters. the shoulder pad is straight out, right? so is the base arm. but then you bend the figure's arm down, right? and the figure's shoulder smoothly bends down. well, so does your shoulder pad, turning it into a foam rubber shoulder pad. you can just adjust the joint parameters for it, or turn off bending for that part.
