Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 28 11:20 am)
For around $200 you can buy HD recovery software which may well ease some of your pain. I've recovered 90%+ of files from HDs which have been FDisked, formatted and otherwise trashed.

Ive just bought a 60gb external hard drive because I was worried about just such a thing happening and transferred all 16gb of Poser onto it as a backup. Now I
m safe,I thought. Theres no chance of both drives going together. Nobody could be that unlucky. Then on Saturday someone stole my wifes handbag and two days later my car was nicked. I
m worrying about my Poser again.
Ahem... For around $200 you can buy HD recovery software which may well ease some of your pain. I've recovered 90%+ of files from HDs which have been FDisked, formatted and otherwise trashed. Try it. Really. It may save you a lot of grief.

So sorry to hear about that. My E drive, that all my Poser things are on is giving me grief now and is at the home/office of the fellow who built our PC. He feels confident he can save the files, and I do have them on backup just in case, but the agony of having to re-install everything is a pain. But I look on the bright side...at least I am alive to complain about it, lol. I wish you the very best with it and please keep my E drive in your thought. Warm Regards, Nancy Deer With Horns (SophiaDeer)

Do a search for "PC Inspector" a freeware file recovery utility. Didn't help me because the drive was physically kaput but it may help yours. Ironically, it was the only one of my drives which was still under warranty so that was a small silver lining. Having my Poser stuff scattered over several drives didn't hurt either :-)

Well, I'm back on the air again. The good news is I've got a brand spanking new computer with twice the horsepower and memory of the old one. The bad news is I haven't been able to retrieve my old files yet. I've got the Norton Systemworks package loaded, so I hope I'll be able to get some of them back, if I can persuade the BIOS to actually recognize the drive. Stay tuned...
Well, it turns out that some of those trips were my fault: a misdiagnosis of some problems I was having. The new 'puter has been up and running for several days without a hiccup, and I've got 90% of my backup files restored. All that remains is to attack the old drive and see what I can retrieve of my Poser and Vue scenes (which were, in aggregate, way too big to save on CD, although in retrospect I should have at least saved off my favorite files. Live and learn, I hope...).

My hard drive crashed, big time. I just hope and pray that once I've installed the new drive, I can scrape the bits off the old one and recover at least some of the files. I have most of the critical object and texture files backed up on CD, and all of my final images are on my website, but all of my Poser and Vue scenes may be history. I am not a happy camper right now.
