Subject: Where can I find hair for V1 / Poser 3?

nontroppo ( ) posted Thu, 15 May 2003 at 12:15 AM · edited Wed, 31 July 2024 at 6:35 AM

I have Vicki 1 with hair. I would like to find some proper hair instead of these pieces of matted mud that come with Poser. Where can I find some free realistic-looking hair for V1? Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Some one correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand Poser 3 doesn't do Transperancy? If that is so, I'm afriad most of the "Realistic" hair is useless for you. If not then surf to the link :) Cheers, Axe.

What about if I render in Bryce instead? What settings should I use to get the textured "hairy" hair?

I downloaded "kaz's long hair" from the above link (thanks) and it doesn't look too bad in Bryce (this is transparency 30), but there is something wrong across the forehead - there's an extra bit of hair plastered across the forehead which isn't in the sample image. It's in Poser, too... what should I do?!

Ah, you need to do some transmapping in Bryce.... Here are a few links to transmap textures in Bryce if you scroll to the bottom levt corner. Try out ALL of the tuts because each has a tip and none are complete. If you still have problems in Bryce after doing the tuts, come back and ask me. This is a bryce render of Judy/Koz.

What you're dealing with in the Bryce render of Koz hair is a ghost of the mesh. Do the tuts. This too is a judy/koz hair piece rendered in Bryce.

Already hit a snag with the tut - the tut assumes the hair is made up of lots of different meshes that you can select separately. The hair I'm using only shows up as one mesh in Bryce (I did export groups separately), so I can't just select that bit at the front. I don't know what other tuts to do - the link you gave only has one relating to hair.

Oh, and if you're going to render in Bryce, you should consider a freeware program called Grouper that helps convert your Poser model exports to something easier to manipulate in Bryce.

EricofSD ( ) posted Thu, 15 May 2003 at 3:18 AM

Cross posted. Run your export through grouper then see if you have that same snag.

and if you have one mesh or multiple, doesn't matter. The technique of adding the texture map and the TX (transmap) texture is the same. Sometimes you have to manually hunt for the TX file.

As I recall most of Koz's hair takes one transparancy map, so you should be okay there with the obj as one piece.

Thanks for all your help. I got Grouper and ran a test thing through it. I did the mtl file thing at the end (under the repair tab) and got the following: Runtime error 75 Path/File access error And then Grouper crashes. Grrr! So now I can't open the OBJ in Bryce because it needs the mtl file.

Never heard of that before. Best email the guy who made grouper and ask. Also, there is a program called MeTaLFixer floating around somewhere which might help as well.

Are you checking the blend transparency and applying the transmap? Here's an example.

Oh oh oh oh!!! Thank you for that! I had all the write stuff loaded up but didn't know about this. It works! Except that her hair is coming out really short - sort of chopped off halfway (but still feathery like real hair). Thanks everyone for your patient replies.

Great! Glad it helped. Arleen

Aha, fixed that too - I was using a different transmap... found the right one. She looks great.
