Subject: Poser 5 to Poser 4 question

Greetings everyone, I'm working on a new prop set for Poser, and I have one concern. I'm developing it under Poser 5. Will the Poser 5 cr2 and pp2 files work under Poser 4? I'm having trouble stripping out the Poser 5 specific data, but if they'll work under Poser 4 anyway, I may as well keep them as they are. If anyone knows, I could use the help. Thanks! Jonathan / fiction2002

It should open under 4 with a warning that it's a newer file. Marque

Yay! Thanks for the info. Then I guess this set is ready for the Marketplace. :-)

about the only thing you'd have to do for Poser 4 would be to include image rsr's for the figure/props.... p3do from senosoft can do that easily for ye. and a word in the readthis about converting the jpg's to bum's for the bump maps 8 ) good fortune 8 )

Oh and if you change the version number in your pp2/cr2/whatever to 4.01, Poser 4 users won't get that "Newer version than expected" error. And Poser 5 doesn't care :o) Note that Poser 5 files are bigger than Poser 4 versions due to all the unneccesary (for P4 users) cr*p specific for P5. So if you have any way of stripping them, it would be an advantage imo. Good luck :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

The error goes away after you resave in P4 and then reopen. I don't know what exactly gets changes, might still need to hack the cr* but at least you can offer it and it should work with both versions.

Thanks everyone. I've changed the version number in the pp2s and cr2 to 5, and created rsrs for them as well. I think it's good to go! Best, Jonathan / fiction2002

EricofSD you're right of course but I think that having to do so is something acceptable for free stuff but not for commercial items. Remember when you save something to the palette again you also make a new thumbnail, and unless you're very carefull what's in your picture at the time, you can end up with an ugly/unuseable thumbnail. fiction2002, I hope it was a typo when you wrote that you changed it to 5? :o) Also for some reason it has to be 4.01 and not just 4.
