Glad everyone likes the Hatchling Phoenix. I tried to do a exaggerated inbetween of an ostrich and a parrot. =) Not exactly sure when it will go up, but possibly by the weekend. ML

Attached Link: Terror bird scupture

Is just me or does it bear a strong resemblense to Andalgalornis? Terror Birds Standing up to 3 metres tall, with a powerful hooked beak, Andalgalornis and its relatives were truly 'Terror-birds'. these large, flightless birds roamed the South American grasslands between 2 and 62 million years ago - their closest living relatives are the cranes and rails, including the decidedly un-terrifying moorhen. they had strong, powerful legs and could probably run at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour, chasing down the early mammals which were their prey. Among the top predators of their day, they finally died out as the climate warmed, and their grassland habitat was replaced with dense tropical forest.

Firebirdz ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 2:09 PM

Is this a Platinum Club item ?

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 5:53 PM

Bahh. I entered this thread, hoping to see a render of the new Millennium Cat, tarred-and-feathered. But this is cool, too.

Chocobos, anyone?

ladynimue ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 6:47 PM

Wow this is wonderful ladynimue

xoconostle ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 7:53 PM

Totally fab, Michael. A real charmer.

Xena ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 8:10 PM

Really well done Michael! And as much as I hate to hear the words come out my mouth (or fingertips - whatever) "he's sooooo cute" ;)

CrystalDragon ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 8:14 PM

LD, makes me wonder how hard it would be to convert this into a Chocobo. ML, please tell me this will be a platinum club item. ^__^ ~DM

capsces ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 8:15 PM

Oh, he is such a cutie, Michael. Have you heard that already? I love his big head and big feet. :) Beth

MallenLane ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 9:11 PM

Maybe I'll make a little saddle for Koshini hehe.

Dejah ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 9:15 PM

YESSSSSSSSS pleaaaaaase!!!

MallenLane ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 9:15 PM

Oh, and I'm not sure if its PC or not, but most of the toons do go in PC, so its likely. ML

LilWolff ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 9:49 PM

Yea!!! Otto reincarnated (sort of) and even more beautiful! Ok so I miss my ostrich (the real one). This is as close to a modeled one that I have seen. Super fantasic! big smiles Can I make him dance with me?

Daio ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 10:08 PM

BTW, I didn't mean any critism in comparing this little guy to a Terror bird. He is absolutely adorable - I think it was just that glint in his eye that made think of large flightless killer birds. ;-)

LilWolff ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 10:37 PM

I am sure if this adorable little guy doesn't like you he would turn into a "Terror" bird and kick the stuffings out of you with those powerful legs. I personally thought it was pretty neat that you pointed out another use for the model. Thanks, I have bookmarked the reference you posted for the future. I love models with multi uses.

sandoppe ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 10:59 PM

He's cute as a bugs ear!!!! :) I suspect I'll be lined up right behind Sharen and pokeydots!

Firebirdz ( ) posted Wed, 11 June 2003 at 6:26 AM

ML - is that picture untextured or is that the texture already ?

MallenLane ( ) posted Wed, 11 June 2003 at 9:39 AM

Thats the texture. It just didn't seem to look right to me with anything super detailed. So I left it rather toonish, with hints of feathers in places.

Another render of it with brighter lighting. The tail and head plumes kinda curl and twist when you pose them, thats why they look different.

And everything scales well, so you can make a slightly less juvenile version if you want..
