Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 7:38 pm)
I think you'll find that what Deecey suggests will actually work. When you load the Poser exported OBJ into UVMapper you will probably get a message saying that no UV data is present. This is because the original DXF file did not have any, (DXF files never do). All you need to do is use UVMapper to add that data.
Once the model is in UVMapper go to Edit/New UV Map/Planar/Z . This may not be the best mapping but it will give you a start and put you on the right path.
I agree with DC and Phil, I took a .DXF cube, loaded in Poser 5 Mac and Poser 4PP PC (still waiting on the side-grade!) exported as .OBJ and was able to load it fine into UVM and UVMPro. I do this all the time to convert .3DS to .OBJ. But it will load in Bryce? If that's the case try selecting the object, hit the little "E" button next to it and in the Edit Mesh dialog type Control+D. Then select .OBJ export from the popup. I'd be amazed if that didn't load into UVM. Only problem with this way is that if you have square polygons Bryce will triangulate them. HTH; Dan
As an alternative, JettBoy, you might consider saving your models in trueSpace's native .cob format, then converting the file to .obj format with a freeware utility like LithUnwrap (or the commercial version, Ultimate Unwrap3D).

It is a DOS program, until now I haven't done a Windows version, too lazy..., you can run it from the DOS prompt. It doesn't convert any kind of dxf, it only deals with 3DFACE entities, but in many meshes it works and when work it do it fine. Go to my homepage and download the "DXF to OBJ Converter"Stupidity also evolves!

The only 3D modelling app (other than Bryce and Poser) that I have access to is trueSpace 3, and the only common file format I can save my modelled objects as, for use in Poser, is dxf. The software (UV Mapper) I use for making maps for Poser figures and for obj/3DS freebies doesn't seem to like this file type, so consequentially I'm stuck with these beautiful models that I can't map...and a solid color just ain't gonna work. Loading my dxf into Poser and re-saving as an obj file doesn't seem to work either. JettBoy very frustrated...
Any suggestions?? Generate some good karma and help a brother out!
