Gliding Home Before The Storm This is a promo pic for an entire package of Dinghey Regatta stuff I'm about to release for sale. This one is intended to display the items in the pack that are in addition to the sailboats and rowboats included. What does this pic need?

Hi forester! :) Texturing! Scrapes, dings, ruffles, dirt, barnacles/seaweed (on pier), wood grain. Give the metals and gloss-finishes higher specularity and a little more reflectivity. Even at a distance, a little will be noticeable perceptively. Maybe some seagulls? ;) The water looks spectacular and like the compositional arrangement. Kuroyume0161

I agree with Kuroyume0161, forester; the textures seem quite pristine, without any weathering, stains, or scrapes. I've spent a lot of time around sailboats and harbors, and you only see boats looking that great the first day of the season.

Very nice models all you need now is the texturing and your there I would say. Well done.

The composition is very pleasing. I agree with the textures. And seagulls would be perfect. Does anyone know where to find good seagulls? I know I could use them from time to time. -Lin

Thank you for your comments folks. Hi Djeser. I've spent years around sailboats too, always scraping and sanding and polishing and cleaning and scraping and sanding and polishing and cleaning, trying to get something to look like this. In fact, as I recall, I spent my entire honeymoon at Catalina Island, scraping and cleaning and cleaning and polishing and .... Not the image of laid back in the sand enjoying the sunset. So, you're right on. Weathering on the textures it will be!

AgentSmith has a beautiful seagull model for free right here in Renderosity Free Stuff. It's a Poser model, so of course you'll need that app to be able to pose it and create a .pz2 for import to Vue. I'm not aware of any gull models in other formats. Sometimes a single gull, or maybe two, off in the distance in the sky can do a lot to help complete a nautical scene. I agree with the comments, this is already a very pleasing, attractive render. Perhaps some more texturing would increase the realism.

Nice Pic,,,in addition to the textures how about some numbers or logos on the sails? And sails usually have little strings hanging in the wind.

You know, I think I might need to make a seagull and throw it in the package this is intended for. Guess I'll try that. If I end up creating a decent one, I'll also post it in the free area in response to all of you who've made so many helpful suggestions.
