THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Bryce4 vs 5

I've been using Bryce4 for some time now and I haven't bothered to upgrade to Bryce5. Should I upgrade? I don't care about features like the tree-lab but the meta balls feature would be nice. Any more reasons why I should upgrade?

The rendering engine has been upgraded a tad, you now have soft shadows, a more enhanced light lab, more robust settings for reflections, depth of field etc. some features will for sure slow down renders, but the end result is usually great!! Metaballs are fun to play with, great results come from those, I would suggest upgrading.

Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

I would say with the current price, metaballs alone are enough to warrant the upgrade. Skylab in 5 is great as well.

Really glad I upgraded. It was worth it.

I've upgrade but I still use B5 the same way I was using B4 , I don't use the treelab and softshadow take hours to render (and it's easy to simulate even with B4) The only thing I really appreciate is the highers terrain resolution 2048x2048 or 4096X4096. cheers

bryce 5 has many more options for when you need them, I suggest upgrading.

I felt a bit cheated when I went from Bryce3D to Bryce4, since the 'upgrade' was mostly cosmetic. I held off on Bryce5 because of that experience, but when I finally went for it I felt the new version was very good indeed. Since then, my estimation of Bryce5 has risen further. With work, and workarounds, the new render features can combine to achieve realism results close to the mega programs. At the current near giveaway price, not grabbing Bryce5 is deserving of a slap with large fish. ;-)

I think B5 is still $80. Jump on it! Worth it for the enhanced render options and the Light Lab.

I'm in the same boat as you, bazze. I've held off on upgrading due primarily to the stability problems. I'm not sure if that was ever fixed. I've been using b4 for many years now, and have had the program crash maybe 5 times. There are only one or two features b5 has that I am interested in....soft shadows and ultra-hires terrains do sound cool.....and that's about it. Not worth $80 bucks to me. However, if you guys keep coming up with cool freestuff that only works in b5.......maybe this grumpy ole bastid will change his mind. Save that slap with the big fish for the guys at Corel.
