THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Bryce import from Poser

Hi all,

I'm sure this is a very elementary question, but what is the best way to import obj files from Poser into Bryce? When I import most Poser figures, most of the textures are fine, but when I go into the materials lab, the specularity is set to 100% and therefore I cannot increase it anymore. Also, the eyeballs appear entirely white. How can I fix this?
Thanks for any info anyone can give.

Brian
P.S. I am using Poser 5 and Bryce 5.

Do you run your exported Poser model through Grouper before importing it into Bryce?

You need to get your hands on a program called grouper. Do a search in renderosity for it.

Because I like to blow $%&# up.

The eyes are white because that's the default texture for the clear shell around it. Select the shell and give them a glass texture. Best way is to export from Poser as .obj and then open Grouper and convert the mesh to a grouper obj, then use that for your import. There are a few tuts out there to deal with transmaps and transparency blending. I think AS will be putting that together in the backroom.

  1. export figure as obj file. 2. run obj through grouper, linking all the parts that come off the same map. 3. copy and save all the Poser textures for the figure in the same folder as the new obj. 4. import into Bryce, click on the M square at the side of the model and enter Material Lab. 5. put a dot in the first ambiant channel just under the diffuse channel. This brightens the ambiant and you'll have to reduce it to get the tone right. At 100% it is too bright. 6. if you've grouped all the eye elements in Grouper you should be able to select the eye and apply the eye textures all at once. I hope this helps, if you have any questions just ask. 8) Catlin

Here's the link where you'll get Grouper. 8)

Does grouper run on OSX? I am on a Mac with Poser 5 and Bryce 5 for OSX.

I usually use .3ds as the export, don't use grouper and it textures ok in bryce, other then hair. (I tend to paint over the hair on stills anyway)
