Subject: P5 user to quickly very something

Hey all, I have an update to my freebie marigold that contain some fixes by Ronstuff that allows P5 users to actually enjoy the model (sorry folks, I'll not do that again:( ) However, before I humiliate myself even further, I was hoping someone would be kind enough to check out a file for me (I'll have the folks at PP update their verison, but also make an announcement here as well with an update that is smaller:) and verify that all is good (actually, hopefully better:) The current version renders somewhat blotchy on some parts of the plant due to reversed normals...which apparently don't show up in P4 renders. IM me if you are interested Thanks, eric

Let me quickly add that it is STILL a great model - just making it look as good as it should for Poser 5 fans. I also was really impressed with your Coleus plants - the textures and morphs are fantastic. I just hope that you continue to come out with these stunning models :-)

Poser 4 Rendered - Everything On This one took very little time for my AMD 1400 XP system to render out. About a minute, if that. As you can see, nothing seems to be really missing from this one.

Poser 5 Rendered - FireFly, Everything On This one took a little longer, as I enabled RayTracing from one light and regular ol' shadows from another. This one took about eight minutes to render out. It's also interesting to note that this one has some things different.

Poser 5 Rendered - FireFly, Remove Backfacing Polygons/RayTracing Off This one took a much shorter time, due to no Ray Tracing. About four minutes. It looks very similar to the previous one, if not the same. I'd have to check it in ACDSee.

Poser 5 Scene Setup - Actress: Ghouladeen Ghouladeen volunteering to offer her services for test rendering of Marigold. Since she's supernatural in nature, she can do these things with little to no effect on her health, or lack thereof.

Poser 4 Rendered - Textures / Bump Maps Disabled Marigold with Yellow MAT file, no textures and no bump maps. Just to get a sense of where things vanish off to, I guess.

Poser 4 Rendered - Top View Hmmm... green dots out in space. They seem to not be there when FireFly goes through them... however...

Poser 5 Rendered - Top View, Texture Filtering Disabled ...there does seem to be some kind of noticeable leaf where the leaf actually is. Perhaps not completely transparent? Have to investigate that one...

-Yggdrasil- This is what the marigold should look like. Its kinda hard to tell what you are rendering - the lighting is a little severe and the colors are a bit washed out. The issue is with shading, so it might not show up if using any ambient color or if the lighting itself introduces unusual shading. I can't really tell if you are experiencing shading problems or whether it is just the lighting. In your top view notice that the leaves are lighter in the middle near the stem where they should be darker, and the outer leaves which normally would be lighter are darker - but hard to tell what the real source of the problem is. In any event if you wish to test the new file, just IM mamba-negra.

Poser 4 Rendered - Close-Up Better, brighter lighting. ^_^ All lights are normal, atmosphere is normal, background is normal. Want me to start shading them?

Would seem that one of my lights in the previous entries was a freakin' spotlight! Gah...

Nice Toon BTW - but not what we are talking about. If your lighting is normal lighting (no hotspots), then it appears that ALL of these images are showing the inverse shading caused by reversed normals. This is strictly a Poser 5 issue but affects both the P4 and Firefly renders done in P5. It also appears that the ambient color and value may have been cranked up and this will mask the shading problems too. Ambient color should be black and ambient value should be zero for objects which are not self-illuminated or transluscent (such as a lampshade or lightbulb) Backface renders done in Poser 4 and ProPack do not shade in this manner. In other words, the "Poser 4" render engine in P5 is NOT the same as the render engine in Poser 4 or ProPak - particularly with things like this. From the looks of it, all the images you say are Poser 4 renders appear to be Poser 5 renders with the "P4" option which is not the same thing as a true Poser 4 or ProPak render. In any event, the purpose of this thread is to solicit beta testers for the corrected OBJ. So your input is appreciated, but not exactly responsive to the topic. If you want to test the new OBJ and compare the new renders with these renders, it would be greatly appreciated. thanks
