Subject: New to Vue :)

Silke ( ) posted Wed, 19 November 2003 at 7:47 AM · edited Tue, 23 July 2024 at 12:00 AM

Hi all :)

I've just bought Vue4 and thought this was a good place to start.

Are there any hints, tips, do's and don'ts that the more seasoned among you have for a newbie?

I would much appreciate any advice you guys have for a beginner (apart from reading the manual, which I plan on doing tonight), things that you wished you'd known when you started, tips on how to make things easier, faster, cleaner etc. Things to avoid. "Must have" add-ons, tutorial sources...

Things like that. :)

I have used Bryce for some time, but haven't used it recently at all, in fact not for a year or so, so I'm not a complete novice when it comes to 3D landscapes.
I use Poser4 & 5, and I want to eventually import my poser scenes to Vue - but first I want to learn what it does, and doesn't do before I go down that route.

Of course in the meantime I intend to have some serious fun with it :P

Prepare for many daft questions from lil ole me.

Thank you in advance :)

Silke

Welcome to our Vue Forum:-)

We have many things for you. A sample is the Backroom above.
We also are here for any question. Make sure you have Vue 4.12 or 4.2 if you also use Poser 5.

For the beginning, just go ahead and see what you can do with Vue.

If you want a first tutorial for a very beginner, see my "Vue 4, first steps" from the Tutorials section at the link here:-)

The only advice I have is have fun and when you import a Poser object, make sure that Poser (the application) is closed before you import or it won't import it. Have oodles of fun. Welcome yourself to our free models that work well in Vue. We have lots of rooms too that do well for interior scenes those are free too. Sharen

Oh, I understand:-)

Silke ( ) posted Wed, 19 November 2003 at 8:53 AM

Mazak I bought that one also :) But to be honest - I can't animate worth squat in anything, so I would likely never use it :) Or rather by the time I've learned how to animate anything, we'd be on version 10 So Mazak and I shall be clinging to your shirt-tails for a bit. :) Just in case you were wondering why you're having trouble getting up the steps. That'll be us. Hanging on for dear life, but determined to come along for the ride. Silke

No big problem, I won at DAZ a contest and get from e-on a voucher over 67. That voucher I will use for Mover. So Vue+Mover cost me only 126 instead of 313. To learn Vue and ask when problems came over, here at renderosity is the right place, I observe ;-) Mazak

Great to see you both here. As others have said, have fun. "Playing" is a great way to learn. Bear in mind that although the basics of Vue are easy to learn, the app is actually quite complex. You can do things with it that won't be evident at first. This might sound obvious, but frequent visits to the Vue gallery here can be very inspirational and eye-opening in terms of what Vue's capable of. There are some very accomplished and talented visionaries here at Rosity. And then there's this forum and the back room, fantastic resources. As one friendly word of advice to newbies, realize that Vue and Poser's virtual cameras are quite different. You can compose an entire scene in Poser and import the whole thing, but you might have to do a lot of re-adjusting to get it to look the way it did in Poser. I prefer to import scene elements one-by-one into Vue and construct the scene that way. Happy rendering!

~laughs~ Well, there will actually be a third newbie hanging on for dear life too.

Hi, my name is Ciorstaidh, aka Skyarcher. I am still waiting for my purchase of Vue to arrive, I too took advantage of the deal of already owning Poser (for about 3 weeks) so was able to get a great discount. Not sure who gave the link for it in the posts, but thank you sooo much! I downloaded the demo version of Vue after I ordered the program. I think I will learn it quicker than Poser. Have made already a couple of things that I'm kinda proud of, just can't wait to see what I can do with full program.

I have been using PSP for about 4 years, not expert but pretty good with making things, so this is new challenge. I did want to thank Linda (linwhite) for opening my eyes to a whole new world.

Also...

A thank you to Guitta, For the last week I have been browsing the backroom, the galleries, everything...and I found your site. The tutorial you have for beginners was great and easy to follow. Without it I wouldn't have known that I could line up plants and stuff and drop them, landing perfectly, instead of having them halfway in the water which was my first try.

Yahoo! Newbies! Silke, I couldn't animate anything before I got Vue-Mover (or I should say that all I did was load BVH files into poser and sigh...). And I'm still learning. Boy, am I learning.... : But it has proven to be a snyergistic excersice. Having the ability to import Poser animations into Vue led to digging into the Poser animation toolset, to correct the multitude of BVH translation errors that you will always have (assuming the motion file wasn't created specifically for the mesh you are using). And that leads to digging into the native animation ability in Vue, as you start wanting things like flashing lights, animated materials. Then you have VuePro which adds wind affected plants to the mix, and the upcoming Mover 5 which is supposed to have -full- support for P5...which will really make the dynamic cloth and hair useful outside of Poser. One feeds off of the other....

Egawds... Mentioning "Yahoo! Newbies!" and "One feeds off of the other..." in one post... you worry me! :P prepares to be devoured and tries to look fearfu--- err fearsome As for animation - LOL I don't even touch it in Poser and I've been using Poser for what seems like forever! The sheer prospect scares me. Gimme a quick fix :P Purty pickshers... you know. Press button and--- wait! No! slaps self I wanna learn! Ok back to that manual...

(Blink, blink) Oh,no! You have the wrong idea completely (kicks dismembered corpse under the handy drape in the corner)! Actually, this is probably one of the most laid back forums at Rosity. I used to feel the same way....then I made the mistake of finding www.belino.net and seeing just what kind of ability Vue and Phoul possess. And when you consider that he only uses Vue and Poser, with no postwork (aside from compositing and sound work).... Just be warned. If you have never been to Phoul's site, you go at the danger of -wanting- to make things move.... You Have Been Warned. And the Mover animation system is actually rather easy to use. Particularly compared to something like you would find under the hood of Maya or Max. And Poser's isn't so much complicated, as....obscure. Once you go through a few tutorials by the likes of PhilC and Little Dragon, and find explanations clearer than the manual, it does start to make sense. Nothing can speed up the tedium of tweaking, but it can be made interesting...

Welcome to the forum. I'm a bit of a newbie myself. Well sort of. What do you call someone who's not quite a newbie but not an expert either? LOL

Grunthor....a halfwaybie? :-)

"What do you call someone who's not quite a newbie but not an expert either?" The above, near a computer... in my business (IT)... we call them "dangerous" :P Actually... I call them something else but it's not for tender ears...

I got today my Vue4 (Saturday). I purchased Mover4 in e-on store too, and download the file. Now my problem: When do I get the Mover Serial from e-on? The status of the order is 'Being reviewed'? Must I now wait the whole weekend for that serial?? Looks like e-on is a very paranoid company!! Mazak
