Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 10 10:34 am)
My guess is the poll will change to ask about other apps as well. I'm a little taken aback that the Poll has had so few LW users. while not a LW user, I still tend to root for em cuz they are another Amiga Legacy app. (my app of choice being Truespace.) ^_^ And I have a lot of respect for the work I've seen done in LW. (The indie animes of Makoto Shinkai and Terrence Walker. not to mention all the TV work since the Amiga days) Makes sense that they want to find out how many people want to buy a LW plugin before they devote major resources to it.
Veritas, That promo pic was done in poser 4 with 8 lights and some minor retouching in photoshop. I know this because someone at the DAZ forun asked the same thing, ie. 'Was it done in DS?' I don't remember where the thread is (maybe the tech forum?), but whoever did the promo replied with the info above. If you look through the DAZ forum you'll find it within the last 2/3 days posts. Re Lightwave - I bet DAZ will be conducting polls on other software too in the future. I don't know for a fact, but I have a feeling they're trying to get an idea of which plug-ins for DS would be popular. The fact that LW is the 1st one may just be of no particular significance other than the fact that the DS interface is heavily based on Lightwave's own UI. Also, it's hardly surprising that so few people use LW. When you consider the amount of poser users who actually make models, it's pretty small. I reckon you'd see similar stats for 3d max. I'd say 90% of poser users don't make their own models. mac
I think that 2 echo cause they haeve several LW plugins made by them available at various sites as well as their own.

I don't know how true this is for sure, but when the very first previews of DAZ|Studio started appearing it was commented on by several people that certain aspects of the methodology behind it were similar in style to Lightwave's way of doing things, so it could just be that they've drawn inspiration from it for this program. I've used LW briefly myself but not enough to be able to comment. Anyway, whatever the truth, any new way of working has to be a vast improvement over Poser's ;)
'the DS interface is heavily based on Lightwave's own UI' As I said above, DAZ based the DS interface on lightwave's. They stated this at the time when it was first talked about. Personally, I'd prefer the 3d max UI. Not just because I use ii, or even because I like it, but simply because it's extremely customisable. You can alter everything in sight, including keyboard shortcuts, icons, the lot. Something I think is sadly lacking in 99% of software. Mind you, I've never used LW so maybe it can be fully customised too. As you say, who cares? As long as the dratted thing works. Maybe 3rd party skins will appear at some point for DS. mac
I read somewhere that Daz uses Lightwave to model in as well as using other programs. Since Lightwave is their preference and Daz Studio is their own in house solution this is why they support Lightwave and want to know how many others there are out there that use Lightwave. With the quality of their work I sure would recommend Lightwave wouldn't you? I believe they also use Deep Paint too.

I can't help but wondering if the new 40% Off Sale Promo art on the DAZ website isn't done in DAZ STUDIO? Doesn't it look different than regular Poser renders? And what's with the continuing questionaire about how many people use Lightwave? Is this some kind of HINT about the direction DAZ STUDIO might be going in? - as in compatibility with certain Lightwave plugins, etc. Finally- what about this- what if DAZ STUDIO converted all POSER OBJ files (as an OPTION) into LWO file format! That would SAVE a HUGE amount of space in the Geometries folder (assuming DAZ Studio doesn't have other plans there also!)
