Subject: Bloodsong...Can I borrow your nose?

Hey Bloodsong. I ran into a file that I would like to incorporate into my Chaney Junior figure. Your Nostril figure is pretty cool and would solve the whole "flaming nostrils" thingee. I think its a good idea. I am trying to incorporate as many cool things as possible into the figure as possible that I have found and will of course give full credit. Do you think it would also be possible to do a BIG FACE version of his texture and incorporate the Nostril thingee in it? Man, I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me in this area. Big Face would be fairly simple to do. One suggestion: only move and resize - never remap (unless you are using Flesh or Texture Weaspons). If you layer the head similar to that done with Victoria, you would not need to mess with the rest. I did each of the pre Vic fems in a mapping style similar to Vic. Not very difficult to do. You just must assign a new material to the head = "skinhead" is simple enough. You can do the nostrils yourself. After you have remapped the figure and saved as a new obj. open the new one again in UVMapper. Select each of the two nostril parts (looks like a bottle cap) try to get each complete but with as little else as possible. move to a blank area. Then select each facet that does not belong and drag it back to its origin (exact is not necessary) You will probably need to resize to get at them all. Once you have the nostril isolated, assign it to material "nostril". Then, save the model under a different name. Open the two obj files in a good text editor. In the "f" section of the nostril one you will find several sequences: usemtl nostril then ####'s ... then usemtl skin then ###'s.... copy down the first 2 or 3 numbers of each of the blocks after each "usemtl nostril" line. In the "real" obj file find each of these blocks of numbers and isert "usemtl nostril" before and "usemtl skin" after. The first number of the lines may be different because your movement of the facets but the pattern, number of lines, and location in the group sequence will be the same. This is a way of adding materials without changing the mapping.

How much to get YOU to do it for me as it sounds like you KNOW what you are doing? smile But seriously folks. I would love help with this project as I know where I want to go but don't have thge skills yet to get there.

Which character are you using? And what have you done with its obj file so far? Remapping? Actually the P4 male is a Big Face. To go to Victoria style mapping will improve the quality of the textures, but it is a divergent trail. If you do a Big Face, are you prepared to face the following? All textures will have to be adapted or done from scratch. The adapted textures will need work to make their quality acceptable. ( The donor texture will be small so scaling it up will introduce artifact that will need to be repaired. - an editorial comment implying that most of the present textures are too small.) I am willing to do the remapping and nostrils, but I do not intend to mess with the actual skin of any male textures until Victor gets here. To this point, I have probably spent 2% of my time on a male figure. Perhaps either you or additional allies will be willing to provide a large enough library of textures to support this effort. I have been around for over a year and a half and seen similar efforts come and go. When you do a remapping, this is not a 'fire and forget' exercise, if you want it to go. It must be continuously supported. Are you willing to do this? If not, I advise sticking with just the morphs. What is available can use improvement and the available stock has no comparison to Posette, but with Victor coming, will it be worth the effort? My questions are meant as questions. If after thought, you say 'yes', then I will help. In any case, this is not a small business, where you lose your life savings if your enthusiasm far exceeds reality. Only time is invested. But still, I would rather you not spend mine frivolously. Jaager

heyas; in answer to your actual question... yes, i'd like to see the nostrils incorporated into everybody's figure. if you REALLY want to do it the easy way, just pilot the camera up the figure's nose and use the grouping tool to select the nostril facets. then assign the nostril material to them. ;)

Jaager... the answer (probably not the one you want to hear) is Yes. I will be willing to help support the use of the larger faced P4 Man with Nostrils. The reason is simple. I frankly can't afford or foresee being ABLE to afford Victor. If Victor were bought FOR me, I would happily make morphs for it til the sun came down but I don't forsee a strange benfactor doing so for me. (Hint, hint to any strange anonymous benefactors out there) I would like to do this for all the others who cannot afford the Victor figure as well and think it would be helpful for them as well. I have done NOTHING with the actual .obj file yet. (not good enough to, frankly) but was planning on adding either Nerd's eyes or Realeyes which I am awaiting permission on. I would like a pair of eyes I can rescale and do morph targets to and ones that looked realistic which both do. I would be willing to work on textures and have done several. I'm willing to put my time into it if you are. Email me for details as to what we can do together. I look forward to your input.

RK: Sent the mail from here. Did not get the "sent" message though. (In case you did not recieve it.) Blood: I would be chagrined if I did not find the grouping tool so obtuse to use. The options are as clear as mud to me.

heya; jaager; i don't blame you. that's why i posted the nostril material figures for download. the fool things are almost as annoying to install as the grouping tool is to use, though. :/
