Subject: Subdivision poses and materials

Subdivisions poses are quite convenient IMO. They have a problem, though : since they are assigned directly in the cr2 and not in the obj (the texture pointing from each body part and not from the obj's groups), they don't appear in the materials. Thus, you cannot change the material that applies to them from within Poser, you have to hack the pose to make it point to another texture path (at least that's what I understand...). I'd like to be able to use a division pose, then change the texture afterwards, from within Poser. And even apply a P5 material. Is there any way to do this ? A python script, may be ? Thanks in advance for any help.

Mat Pose Edit 3 (beta) allows asigning of materials for sub-dividing poses. There's a tutorial on the site. My thanks to scourge and all the beta testers involved for what looks to be a superb program!

From what I see in this tutorial, this program takes existing materials and builds MAT poses or subdividing poses for them. Can it transform subdivisions into a material that can be edited from within Poser ? (and if so, how can it do it without altering the obj's grouping ?)

You guessed right compiler, MPE cannot transfer subdivisions into a material. Unfortunately I don't know any solution to this.

Well, I think the group tool is the only solution... Thanks for the info anyway.

I'm not sure whether the following might provoke channels for you to explore, but I've always been impressed by the Medusa Graphics' usage of Math nodes in Poser 5 to combine two (or more) textures. The pictured example shows just one of Poser 5's mind-boggling possible ways where Medusa's tattoo (linked freebie) strategy may be used to create a 'second skin' material. I'm using Arki's Redqueen psd texture here, but instead of merging layers to make a new texture, I've assigned the second texture within Poser 5s material room following Medusa's guidance. The relative interplay of texture strengths can be adjusted to great effect, as well as the Math Argument, and the material can be saved to the library, and easily edited for the creation of MAT poses.
