THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: OT....................I need a hug

catlin_mc ( ) posted Fri, 02 January 2004 at 4:21 PM · edited Sun, 29 December 2024 at 1:18 AM

Hi folks, As some of you may know I have diabetes and have had it since childhood. Well today I had a heavy bleed into my right eye and for the first time in my life I actually saw the blood fill up my eye. So I went to the A & E and had it checked. They said it wasn't too bad and by the time they saw me it had stopped bleeding, but I still have to go to the eye clinic tomorrow to see if I need laser treatment. This is the one thing about diabetes that has always terrified me, the fact that I might go blind, and being an artist I think that would kill me. So if any of you feel like cheering me up then all hugs would be most welcome. 8) Catlin

HUGE HUGS AND MORE HUGS AND MORE HUGS....I have just sqeezed you out....try not to worry Catlin, a friend of mine had the very same experience and all went well, she had laser surgery and it was a breeze and she is now 70 years old....really, I know not everyone is the same, but I have read up on this and they have made huge jumps in this kind of research. Hope this helps rest your mind of blindness...hang in there and please let us know how you are doing after you see the doc. Sharen and Mike

catlin_mc ( ) posted Fri, 02 January 2004 at 5:38 PM

Thanks peeps I feel totally squeezed to bits. 8) I feel much better about what's happened, now I've had time to think about it rationally. I've been a bit scared of getting the laser surgery but if it needs to be done to save my sight then I'm going with the flow and hope for the best. I'll write again tomorrow and let you all know what's said at the clinic. Thank you all for being such dear friends. 8D Catlin

BIG HUGSSSS Catlin! We're all praying for you and for a quick recovery! I know those fears of going blind, tho mine aren't from diabetes... for years the eye sight in my right eye has grown worse and worse, till now, and has finally stopped, just shy of being considered legally blind. The sight in my other eye is bad also, but not nearly that bad, and i'm warned all the time to wear safety goggles...but being young and stupid, i refuse.. I've been told if the sight in my left eye goes for some reason, i would be left helpless and declared blind... when things like this happen, it always helps to remind us of how lucky we are to have those things we take advantage of otherwise. My husband is laying up in bed now with a bad scratch to his eye, so i've already been thinking alot about this....and i know, just as he'll get better, you will too! If they wanna do surgury, let them! they know what they're talking about! HUGSSSSS again! best of luck, and get better soon! Jen

Catlin, So sorry to hear this. It seems as though you've overcome a lot so far. It may be that you only need a short break from computer screens - they can really mess up your eyes. I'd probably get my face slapped if I hugged you, but I wish you good health, and I hope you will be OK. -TJ

BIG hugs going your way from Arkansas, Catlin!!!!!!!!! My son had laser surgery on both of his eyes and he said it wasn't painful. He was a little frightened at first, but all went well and he said he would certainly do it again if warranted. Hang in there, gal!

Hugs from me too - I know how scary eye thingies can be - was diagnosed with raised eye pressure (precursor to glaucoma) earlier this year myself. I'm now paranoid about developing tunnel vision, but I seem to be OK so far! Back for another check up in February. Keeping fingers (but not eyes!) crossed. Hope all goes well with you!

danamo ( ) posted Sat, 03 January 2004 at 2:47 AM

Dear Catlin, I send all my hugs and I can really relate with your eye trouble. For the last two weeks I've had severe Iritis in my right eye and have been using an eye patch and sun glasses. The eye-drops keep my right eye dialated so it's always fun to go out in public looking like Marilyn Manson, lol. Anyways, I just thought it was an interesting coincidence. I send all good healing thoughts. Dan

oh catlin my love, i was very sorry to read your message, you have always been one of the good people, and i have always welcomed, indeed, i watch especially for your feedback. all i can say that may be of some help, is that i do know how diabetes can affect you, as my uncle was diagnosed with it as a boy fifty years ago, yet he has led a very active life, and is still quite a reprobate, rasing hell in the Moffat Bowls club as we speak. i can sympathse with the fear that any artist would feel over something affecting their sight. and can only hope that it does not happen. as you can see above we all care, and i send you my best wishes too. i find myself unable to express clearly but hope the meaning comes thro. catlin_mc ( ) posted Sat, 03 January 2004 at 8:47 AM

You are the best bunch of people on the planet and I'm so very thankful to know you all, and your words of encouragement mean a great deal to me. Well, I went to the eye dept. casualty thismorning and had my eyes dilated and they took a good look around............result?.........nothing too terrible but I've to go back next Friday to see a consultant and have the haemorage measured again to see if it is ongoing or if it's stopped. They also discovered a patch of iscaemic damage in my left eye which basically means impaired blood supply but one good thing is that there is no new vein growth since the last time I was at the clinic. So from me it's a big WHEW!, but if I go back on Friday and they do want to use the lasers on me then I'll be a brave girl and go for it. What's that saying, "don't put off till tomorrow that which can be done today," I guess in this case if it needs done then I've got to go for it sooner rather than later. Thank you all for your support, I cannot tell you how much it means to me, but I can tell you that you have certainly cheered me no end. 8) Catlin

A big HUG from me too, catlin !!! i have an autoimmun condition so i sometimes can't very well move my fingers so i can feel for you a lot, having these kind of troubles as an artist is hell ... but i am confident that the laser treatment will help if it is necessary. Like Peggy and Ardiva say: its no pain and helps a lot. HUG Jutta

Sambucus ( ) posted Sat, 03 January 2004 at 9:32 AM

Sounds like good news, then. And its good that others have experience of the laser treatment and report positive (and painless) results. I think weve been influenced by the movies too much. My first thought of lasers is Sean Connery tied to a table with a red light zooming up his fundament and the villian saying "I expect you to die, Mr Bond". Im sure the eye clinics not like that.

gregsin ( ) posted Sat, 03 January 2004 at 9:46 AM

Lots of hugs Catlin, I just went through eye surgery also. I know its not exactly the same thing but take comfort in knowing its not as bad as you imagine it will be. Good Luck and I'm sure everything will be fine. Greg

I'm sorry, I've not seen this thread until just now since my machine has been in Bryce render mode for the last 61 hours and 19 minutes. I'm so sorry to hear you're having these difficulties but am very happy that the initial examination indicated that it wasn't as bad as was first thought. I'm sending you a nice strong, soothing hug together with warm wishes for a speedy recovery and hope that all future findings are favorable ones.
