Hey everyone, this is my first time posting here, and this is my first gun model. I made this from a quick sketch I did. I didn't look at any pics of pistols until after I had essentialy gotten to this point so it is a real fantasy type piece. I was hoping to get some fresh eyes, and maybe a gun expert or two out there to have a look see before I take this to the next stage. Once I have the gun itself done I want to try to make accesories for it, ie a clip,scope,silencer, that kind of thing. I'm pretty new to modelling in Bryce but I'm having a great time with it.

...Oh yes the bullets are not to scale as I haven't exactly decided how they go into the gun(you get the idea)

top heavy... having fired some handguns in my time (but not an expert)... the recoil may not be tremenous from the caliber, but because the barrel is so high, the kick would be exagerated. aside from that, nice model (:

Love all the "ribbing" going on!! I know its still in the building stage, but one area that points this out as terrains/lattices is the trigger, you might want to think about carving that part out and having a seperate lattice for the trigger. I like this fantasy style, good work! Agentsmith

Thanks guys,... Yes I am going to "chop" it up into "working " pieces. I want the top part to be able to slide back for cocking the pistola ?:>) I aslo will need to seperate parts for texturizing, and hopefuly animating, should be fun!!! ?x>}

Guns at this link have Picatinny rails on top and sides, which are used to mount optics and accessories (lights, etc). This is the hot ticket in tactical small arms these days. I can't think of any significant changes or improvements in firearms design in the future, except perhaps caseless ammunition or biometric operator authorization. Aside from optics and materials, there haven't really been any significant improvements in the last 60-70 years. So it has been difficult for me to imagine a significantly "futuristic" design for a gun. That was one aspect of Blade Runner I never really got. How do you improve on the revolver? All I can recommend is a red dot scope. You can find these all over the Internet. For your project, remember that the slide moves separately from the barrel, and that you need a case ejection port on one side (traditionally the right side). That's pretty good modelling for Bryce.

Thanks a bunch redneck, I had never heard of "picatinny rails" before. So I did a search and found a wack of info. Even grabbed a PDF color catolog, can't ask for much more than that ?;>) This is a great challenge for myself, and I really appreciate the insight. hmm..the usual places for a magazine aren't in yet, but then it is a WIP..;) The handle really wouldn't work in it's current config (not enough of a line to actually put in a magazine), but you could do it like the HK-P90 (as seen on Stargate SG-1, yeah, they're real guns, folks..;) and have the magazine mounted on top. But I'd drop the barrell to somewhere in the middle. Actually, if you want to keep the current proportions, I'd suggest extending the top part forward, and making it an SMG, that's my 2p..;)

hey now theres an idea.. if you made it a smg, you can put a retractable stock on the back. or make it as an accessory along with an extended barrel, w/flash suppresor! (: consider adding a sight too... i dont think theres a gun made today without a manual sight added, (?) regardless of whether or not it uses a laser sight or optical scope.

I think 'Twisted' is right. Too top heavy. This weapon looks 'wrong' and I wouldn't even pick it up. It needs balance. If you are going to mount accessories, be sure to put them on the underside, in front of the triger guard. I also think the trigger itself looks too thick, and would be uncomfortable to use, possibly cutting into the user's finger because of its sharp edges. Finally, where does the magzine go? If it loads through the hand-grip then the grip is too small. 9-10 for effort though..... 0.02p

This would work a lot better as a paintball gun...it's just got that marker look to it. Very good modelling, either way.

There's an author called E.E. 'Doc' Smith. He wrote a whole series about people called 'Lensmen'. It was great stuff but as I got older I found them a little childish. Anyway, these guys had rayguns called 'DeLameters' and talked about the nozzles being pitted and scarred with over-use. I often wondered what these weapons might look like. Is anyone up for the challenge?

Bryster,...That sounds interesting, I'ld be willing to give that idea a go! As to the wip progress, I have alot of whittling left to do. but I really like the way the handle turned out (so far). I've been looking at countless images of guns and accessories and ammo. It's like trying to count stars, there's so many of them. But I have picked out alot of things that I like and plan to incorperate some realy cool stuff that I found. I still have to design the stock, finish the barrel, add more rails, an ejection port, the safety, and so on, and so on,... I'm up to 988mbs worth of files on this thing. I do so love a challenge!

No, the magazine is curling in the correct direction, assuming this handgun is firing rifle cartridges. Rifle cartridges are much narrower at the bullet tip than back by the rim. Handgun cartridges less so, but this is the future, right?

Redneck: Good point! I'm not awake enough to get that involved...LOL I always wondered why AK47s had curved mags.

Mauser invented the bolt-action rifle in the late nineteenth century, and all bolt action designs are derived from the Mauser design (the US government had to pay Mauser a royalty for the design of the M1903 Springfield rifle). During the twentieth century the Mauser Model 98 rifle was manufactured under license by perhaps 20 or 30 countries. Quite literally tens of millions of Mauser model 98 rifles were made, and are still available to (mostly American) collectors. I just received a German k98 Mauser rifle this week via UPS. It's sitting against the desk next to me.
