Fractals F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 13 3:03 pm)
Hi nick I do use a mac but generate most of my fractals on a pc. This tells you that I feel that the pc has a better range of fractal programs. If however you only want to work on the mac then there are a number of possibilities open to you. If you have virtual pc you can look for pc fractal generation programmes that will run under it. I seem to remember someone on the apophysis beta list saying that apophysis ran fine on virtual pc. IMHO apophysis is a brilliant program and well worth a look. I must add a caveat, I have not personally run it on virtual pc so you need to check this out. There is a beta version of fractal domain that will run under osx. You can find it at the following url: http://www.fractaldomains.com/ There is a program, that I like a lot, called artmatic pro. Now this is not primarly a fractal generator. It is like an audio synthesizer where you patch components together to build modules. Some of these components are fractal in nature. Because of this you can produce fractals on it. You can also produce mixtures of fractals and other components. It will allow you to input pictures as part of a module. Hence you can create modules designed to manipulate fractal pictures. It isn't really a first fractal program niether is it cheap. You can check it out and download a trial version at the following url: http://www.artmatic.com/ Hope this helps Paul
hmm.. i wouldn't recommend any windows programs look-a-like for macs, due to the fact that windblows itself contains very many virusses which are harmfull for the user-friendly macintosh, but if ya like the extra work, your free to do as you please ... virtual pc with windows xp for mac os x costs as much as the artmatic pro program, which is named to be a fractal program on steroids smile another fractal generator for macs runs in the cllassic mode of mac os x and under mac os 9 ... program is called spangfract, which you can find at http://home.cinci.rr.com/fractalman/Programs/ i use artmatic pro myself, which you also can find at http://www.uisoftware.com/ review is at http://www.creativepro.com/story/news/18327.html and you can combine it with artmatic voyager, which looks like terragen... greetings, Harmen

Been exclusively MAC since '85. Fractal programs are few and far between. A good port of UF would be welcome. Tried SprangFrac (classic) and was totally confused! VERY difficult user interface unless your name happens to be Sprang... As for native OSX? Bloody unlikely! Thanks for the help on this. A member had wanted to try fractals, but is a Mac-user. He was interested in knowing a good fractal program for Mac, and if anyone here uses one for Mac. I have never been within 2 feet of a Mac, so I'm clueless there to begin with. Thanks again for the help, I had directed him to this thread.
