Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 09 3:46 am)
I was disappointed with the Poser 4 Handbook. It seems like it was put out in a rush because there is very little insight in it. There's a whole lot of pages dedicated to pictures the author created by maxing out various dials to make bizarre characters that you would never use. Anyone can sit there and spin the morph dials and make goofy faces. Also a lot of emphasis on how other apps might work with Poser so there are lots of references to examples you don't have access to. There's some useful info buried in the muck but not worth the $50, in my opinion. www.vtco.com has a tutorial CD on Poser, which I found to be useful. Bloomsday
I agree with ulysses. The Poser 4 Handbook (by R. Shamms Mortier) was mostly just playing with dials and such. It has come in very useful for some things, though, and if you can find it at a discount it would be worth getting it. I haven't tried any other books, because I've found that I can get 99% of my questions answered either in the tutorials or by asking questions in the forums. But the P4 Handbook has helped me learn alot of newbie information. Not alot that wasn't in the docs that came with Poser, though.
The Poser 4 handbook is largely a waste of time and money unless you want to create goofy faces. Wish I could have gotten my money back. Start with the Poser 4 manual, read tutorials from some of the good artists and experiment, experiment, experiment. You'll learn much more with that method -- as well as getting feedback from other artists and studying their pieces.
