Subject: Doing research for a project

Greetings, I've been part of Rendreosity family for a few years, but I am found in the Rhino forum most of the time. I was talking with a friend of mine last night, and we thought it would be a fun idea to create a website where the visitors could direct the story. I'm sure it's been done, it just doesn't strike me as a very original idea, but I didn't find any while searching. I was thinking along the lines of a chapter of a story, and at the end of the chapter, list a couple options. I post it as a user poll so the readers can choose what happens next. Same author then takes the users poll and writes the next chapter, again ending in a couple options. I was thinking a week between chapters. Not looking for the next great novel, but just fun. The more people writing, the more options/catagories people can read. Sci-Fi, Westerns, Murder Mysteries, Etc. The questions to you folks are: Would anyone be interested in writing a chapter once a week? Is this already being done somewhere else? Is this just a bad idea and I should stop now? Again, I'm not thinking of a massive major site, just a "family and friends" kind of feel. But it's one of those sites that could catch on, who knows. It just sounded like a fun project to put together. Please give me some honest feed back. I can have it up and running within a week or two if people would enjoy it. I live by my rule, "If it's not fun, don't do it." :) Thanks for your time, ~ Rich

Search on the web for "interactive story" and you will find similar projects (many are for children, but there are adult projects too). The main problem is getting cooperation and commitment over time. I think the hard part is getting organized and started. Sigh...if I lived by your rule, I certainly wouldn't have come to work this week.

Thanks for the input on the search. Just did so, and was surfing around the web ring (I knew it couldn't be an original idea, but a web ring?? LOL) After surfing around, I think I'll withdraw my request for writers, maybe in my spare time, I'll make a go of it, or use it as a class project at best. It would give my students something to do to keep them busy. :) In the mean time, I think I'll go amuse myself with some of those interactive stories. (now that I know what they're called) Thanks for the assist ~ Rich

I don't know if you have read any of it yet, but there is an e-story going on this forum. You might enjoy having a try at that...it would give you a taste of what it is like. I think it would be a terrific class project. :) I wonder if it could be done graphically as well. I just had a thought that it would be interesting to challenge the artists on this site to do a storyline without words...where one graphic would spawn another graphic. I'm sure that's been done too. But I would love to see an example of it if anyone has one to share. :)
