B & H is huge and usually has pretty decent prices. Then there is Ritz... http://www.ritzcamera.com Don't you have any local camera supply houses there? I mean in all honesty I would much rather use someone local when making a purchase such as this. That is just my opinion though. The two most reputable on-line sellers are B&H and Adorama... they will not slash the prices ridiculously low and try to sell you extras that would normally come with the camera. Prices are fair.... I purchase all of my equipment and supplies from Adorama, and I've never been disappointed. Their standard 3 day delivery normally arrives to my door in 2 days... You will pay more buying from a local camera dealer. www.adorama.com http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

Lowest price I can find at a local dealer is about $1350, then tax on top of that... The lowest price online was $1054 for a kit, but that was the dealer who said there wasn't DX lens. I'll try to call again and see if I get a different person.

I've bought quite a few things from B&H and never been disappointed (I've bought 2 lenses, a flash, regulator strobe sync, etc). However, when it came time to buy my 10D I bit the bullet and paid about $200 more for it so that I could get it locally. Why? Because if I had found that the 10D I got was a dud or damaged in some way, I could drop back in to the store and physically talk to someone and trade the camera in. It didn't hurt that I'd use that local camera store exclusively and I know they'd take care of me if there was a problemn. I also know they're not some guy sitting in his apartment running an online store out of his bedroom. Also, I don't know where you live but if it's in the us, another thing you need to look out for is that the camera you buy is the US version and not Gray Market (an import version). Becomes a pain in the butt if you need to get warranty work and have to send it overseas. If I had to do mailorder, I would probably only deal with B&H or Adorama. You know, I never looked at the street price of the D70. It amazes me that they priced this camera so high. It's closer to the EOS 10D price than it is to the Canon Digital Rebel (300D) price. Weird. -=>Donald
I took your advise and bought it locally. My husband just about fainted when he paid, but I am thrilled!!! I am waiting for the battery to charge right now! Think I found the last kit in San Diego. I will have two weeks to practice, then we are going to my sons wedding in Kansas. There will be lots of stops along the trip, including the Grand Canyon. Thanks! Peggy

I have called several camera stores that had ads in the photography magazines. Most don't know what they are talking about (I had one guy tell me there was no such thing as a DX lens) and the ones showing a really good price in their ads won't honor their ad price and want to charge way more. Can anyone recommend a camera dealer that will ship to California? Thanks! Peggy
