Subject: Poser 5 to Maya 5 - Nothing complicated...

...I'm trying to import a poser figure into Maya 5 so I can use it for scaling and proportioning props which I would like to make for Poser users and well every time I attempt to import an OBJ file created in Poser 5 into Maya 5, Maya 5 locks up. Any thoughts, any advice for a novice modeler on the verge of loosing his noodles..? Thanks in advance. E

If I understand your intent correctly it sounds like you could just do your modeling in Maya, export/import the model to Poser and just scale it there. I've done that with other modeling apps.

I don't know that this will help but there's a bunch of Poser/Maya stuff at the Maya forum - might try this link. HTH; Dan

...The thing is, I've read the forums and the various solutions and have followed the steps which should technically work- The thing is it hasn't. I simply keep getting lock ups and crashes during the import process to Maya, and I wanted to know if anyone else has ever had this particular problem. I've used other 3D applications with poser and was able to juggle OBJ files pretty well with out any unpredictable hiccups, but this is a little surprising and has left me befuddled. As for the question my methodology it's not that far fetched if you reread my initial post and see that I'm not just concerned with scale but scale and proportion together (Particularly proportion). All I wanted to do was use the poser figure as a reference model to make sure that my furniture was proportioned properly for the basic human form. Like I originally said, it's nothing complicated, I just wanted to know if anyone else had such an extreme hiccup when trying to juggle OBJ files between Poser 5 and Maya 5.

I have had no problems moving figures from poser to maya. What figure are you trying to use, if I have it, I will test it out and see if I get the same result. I am using Maya 4.5 though so it could be a problem with 5.0
