Subject: Problem importing a 3DS file

I am trying to import a 3DS file I bought from http://gunpoint-3d.com/list-tanks_american.html and it isn't really working that well. I tried Bryce as well but it gets most of the way through and then quits. What it is doing in Poser is importing it and most of it is working okay but there are some parts that are just moved or just messed up and I have no clue how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like they use the newer 3ds format that doesnt seem to work with ANY 3d program (its not a fault with poser). Maybe you could e-mail them and ask for a different format ie wavefront object? The only program I have seen that can fix these objects is deep exploration by right hemisphere.

You might try running it through Accu-Trans. (See link.) Accu-Trans is a program that converts among 3D formats. A sort of poor man's PolyTrans. It's free to try, $20 to buy - on the honor system. The free download is not crippled in any way. I've found it can often fix 3DS files that won't import into Poser.

Accutrans has a strange way of exporting wavefront objects. They are all black in poser and if you change the attributes, it doesn`t fix it. The 3ds format should be okay, though.

Weird. I haven't had that problem. I've only used it once or twice, though, to convert some 3DS models that came into Poser with wonky-looking triangles. Accu-Trans converted them to OBJ format just fine.

Are you using the latest version? They issued an update at the end of March.

I will see if I can get the accutrans to wok on my girlfriends computer ..
