THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: The dumbest newby-sounding question of the day ...

waldomac ( ) posted Sat, 24 July 2004 at 7:45 AM ยท edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 8:26 PM

Hi, everybody, I have an extremely dumb question, perhaps dumbest of all because I have been using Bryce for quite a while and it seems like I should have figured it out by now. You know those little buttons at the upper left corner, just under file that change the view ... somehow? They turn blue when you click on them. I don't understand their purpose, and, further, I have a problem that I need to resolve. A couple of times in the last month, I have been going up to File to save my partially rendered scene. I got into this habit years ago so that hours of rendering didn't go for naught with a power failure or a cat on the keyboard during the night or whatever. Anyway, quite by accident, I assure you, I have gone to the top, thought I was clicking on File and ended up hitting one of these buttons. It screwed everything up and I couldn't seem to figure out how to get back to my original POV. This ticks me off, and I appear to be too stupid to figure it out. How do I get back to the POV I was rendering? Thanks.

Those little buttons are for you to SAVE the pov you are working on.
If for example: You are building a scene and you have been using CAMERA to line things up, when you have done whatever and need to move the camera elswhere, you can save that camera pov by clicking one of the blue buttons.

If you run out of buttons and you know that one or more of those buttons is redundant (ie you don't need a particulat pov) you can re-claim that button by alt-leftclick. You might try just re-loading your scene (if you haven't done any work) If you haven't used any blue buttons your pov should be where you left it. Other than that you'll just have to re-sight your camera or director-view.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I was afraid that might be the answer. I got up very early this morning, saved several hours of rendering and, when I got up an hour and a half later, I attempted to save that hour and a half; that's when I boo-booed. So, fortunately, not much lost. About the buttons. It seemed like saving POV would be their purpose. The weird thing, though, is that, upon clicking a button, it goes to some other, bizarre POV, not the one I'm on. Then I can never figure out how to get back. Weird, very weird. I appreciate your reply. I guess I may have to do some down-home experimenting.

I've mainly ignored them..if you click on the 'mountain' shot at the upper left enough times, eventually you get the view you want back..;) and don't worry about 'dumb' questions, if you want to ask them (as if there were such a thing), somehow the Poser forum seems to be the place..;) (j/k)

It's actually a good idea is to click on an empty one when you find a point of view that you like. Just in case something happens, you can jump back to that vantage point by clicking on it. A bit late now, but might be useful next time.

Is it possible that you could bump the top of the screen and then do edit/undo?

Fractals will always amaze me!

Hmm, I don't know. about edit/undo. It's odd, really, because, if I do test scene and mess with with a bit and try to use the buttons, they react exactly as I've been told they should. However, whenever I've had a complex scene and rendering is mostly complete, the scene CHANGEs when I inadvertently hit one of the buttons; it doesn't save. If this comes up again, I'll try edit/undo. I have a feeling, though, that it won't do the trick, but you never know. Thanks for the thoughts, guys. Has no one else ever had this happen to them?

unfortunately viewpoints and camera changes aren't saved in the undo. I should know for I am constantly hitting undo for everything. . . . and I'm still wondering where pakled was going with that last comment . . . ?
