Subject: What's up with the flash?

Ardiva ( ) posted Fri, 01 October 2004 at 10:29 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 8:46 PM

The flash button on the side is trying to load, but not able to. You know the one between "Animation Outlet" and "My Shopping Cart". Any ideas?

Ardiva ( ) posted Sat, 02 October 2004 at 12:26 PM

Second post on this. Am I the only one that doesn't get the flash button anymore? It started yesterday morning and it is still like this 24 hours later. It's trying to load, but never gets there now. Someone please let me know if I am going nuts or have a legit problem here.

TerraDreamer ( ) posted Sat, 02 October 2004 at 12:51 PM

It's not loading for me, either.

Thanks for the reply, Terra. I thought I was going bonkers here. Wish someone would fix it already as it's driving my brower nuts.

I just use Firefox and a nifty little add-on module that blocks any Flash you want. I haven't seen that silly button in ages. ;-) bonni

I use IE6 and was directed yesterday to a nifty little add-on tool that blocks flash as well. Have to turn it off tho when I go to Hallmark to pick a card. grin

Now, don't get too excited. The little buggers were only taking a nap. They wake up when your computer is rebooted, or you log out and log back in. At least that's what we ran into. It's those lovely little banners that pay for the cost of running this site, which we hope you all enjoy. Best wishes, LillianH Renderosity Marketing & Promotions

Exactly, Bonni. :)

LillianH ( ) posted Mon, 04 October 2004 at 10:38 AM

You are correct elizabyte. That's why we advertise the MarketPlace. People have to know how to find the merchandise in order for it to effective for artists, merchants and the site. But, for those that already know how to get the MarketPlace, I can understand not wanting to see the banner all the time. Whatever works best for you. We want you to enjoy being here. "They wake up when your computer is rebooted, or you log out and log back in. At least that's what we ran into." uh uh :) they ain't coming back here and I ain't got 'em blocked, (logged out and in, rebooted several times)... it's so nice to to have them flashing all the time... works out how to keep it like this all the time

elizabyte ( ) posted Mon, 04 October 2004 at 11:09 AM

I'm just teasing, although I admit that I really don't like Flash much, as a general rule. The one on the sidebar for the magazine was kinda annoying to my eyes. In fact, it's why I got the Flash blocking thingy (which can actually block all kinds of stuff). I don't mind banners at all. I just don't like stuff jumping all around all the time. :-) bonni

Hi Khai, Hehehe...So, shall we try to help find them, or maybe you would rather we didn't? ;-) If you would like us to send a search party after the little banners, just let me know what browser your using and we'll see if we can flush them out of hiding. Waves to elizabyte, it's all good. Thanks, Lillian

erm no. flash is one of the most annoying things ever invented and I wish however thought it was good idea to inflict on us here to be taken out side and thrown in a river. any river. so long as it's cold. having banners at the top which flash at speeds that can trigger a fit, (I'll keep an eye for it again so you can get rid of it!) to that annoying crap in the side bar, (the info it holds is already all over the same damn menu it's in you know and you are being rather condesending having it flash.) right now I'm enjoying having this site flash free. keep it up!

BDC ( ) posted Mon, 04 October 2004 at 2:02 PM · edited Mon, 04 October 2004 at 2:04 PM

I understand advertising for da bizzness, however that is what the top banner was for. Or so I thought at least. If you ask me, and the ptb didnt, LOL but I will offer my 2 cents worth anyways, but I digress, if you ask me, the top banner should be larger, with no side banner at all. LOL

And yeah the side anim came back. Darn It!

Yeppers, wyrwulf. So I'm gonna keep my flash filter on. grin

dougocd ( ) posted Wed, 06 October 2004 at 1:40 AM

I too dl'd that cool little tool, so no more flash for me either. I hate flash. It's like someone tapping your shoulder every 2 seconds.

It's like someone tapping your shoulder every 2 seconds. LOL! Or poking someone in the eye to get their attention... bonni

Just FYI, Looks like there are still some "interesting" issues with the sidebar banners. We're working on it. Just wanted to let everyone know. Thanks, Lillian

please no. don't fix it. we prefer it off. gone. no more. haven't you noticed? the site loads quicker. that flash add's nothing to the site. infact... it makes the site look cheap and amateurish. knows this will fall on deaf ears and eyes but had to try

How about an animated gif on the side bar. :) Clint

Still cheap and amateurish but at least there are no compatibility issues with gif images. :P

You know what is right for you. I know what is right for me.

Khai ( ) posted Wed, 06 October 2004 at 1:09 PM

flashy things all over the place = feeling of cheap and amateurish thing is.. it's supposed to tell ppl how to get to the marketplace. there's the top link, the shopping cart link, Sale Items link, Store link (2), new products link plus the top banners. thats 5 ways to get to the marketplace already. do we really need another link that flashes and bogs down the site loading speed? or do we need to take a step back and wonder why we're making it so complex a site?

Lyne ( ) posted Wed, 06 October 2004 at 8:22 PM

Nope it's me too... I was wondering why the "1 item remaining" stays for my whole visit too! First the flash thing slowed down the page load, frustrating enough after getting the link banner fixed to speed things up...but now it is stuck... however, I would rather the flash thing get stuck and NOT LOAD as my visits to pages are now faster! :) PLEASE DON'T FIX IT... JUST REMOVE IT. Really your site is fine now... really!!
