Subject: Changing Poser Version Number

4dogday ( ) posted Wed, 20 October 2004 at 10:51 AM ยท edited Sun, 26 January 2025 at 5:24 PM

How do I get into Poser so I can open files with a text editor to change the number the Poser Version Number from 4.02.0-16 to 4.01 for a project so I can send the pose files to a client so they can use the files they can't use now.
How do I use the text editor and what is a text editor? is it a program or just use the notepad to access the progam. In other words How the heck do I get into Poser to change those numbers. I will then change my version number back to it's origanl number after I mail the pose files to them.
I'm not a Computer guru. I specialize in writing stories and amimations.
Thanks

open up the pose file in notepad, and you will see the version number at the top...change the number and save the file. the pose file should now work in your version as well as theirs.

This might seem very elementry but I never used notepad to open anything, I've only used it for quick notes. How to I open up Poser, or the pose file (which every is needed)suing the notepad.

Open Notepad and go to File>Open and browse to the directory which contains the Pose file you need to change. Under the list of files you'll see a box which says "Files of type" and the default selection is "text documents". Change this selection to "All Files". You should now see all the contents of the directory. Select your .pz2 file that you want to change, open it and make the change, then save it - I suggest as a different file name, in case you make a mistake. To do this, go to File>Save As... and then type a new name and the .pz2 extention, but you must enclose the whole thing in quote marks, otherwise Notepad will save it as a .txt document. For example, type in "mypose-p4.pz2" Hope that helps :)

Thanks a lot, This is something I've never tried before. You have to do it once before you know what your doing.

The poses should still work if the version number is later than 4.01 ... you just get an error message beforehand.

Be aware on pose files (pz2) the version number appears at the top of the document and again toward the bottom. I believe all other files have it just at the top. If you have a number of files to edit, you may want to download the free Editpad Lite text editor (do a google search for it, I do not have the link). You can then use the search/replace feature to search for all instances of Number 4.02 and replace it with number 4.01 in all open documents (you can open mulitple documents in tabs in Editpad lite).

Thanks, I don't like to get into the interworkings of the Computer, (fear of messing things up) but sometimes a guys gotta do what a guys gotta do.

I use a utility, Search and Replace 98 (do a Google search for it). No need to open any files that way and you can process a whole directory at once--and optionally make backups of course.

What I had did was copy and paste the files to be sent into a differnd folder marked to Zip out. In those files I changed the PZ2 files from 4.2 to 4.1. That left my orginal files in Poser in their proper state. Thanks all. Actually the process is very easy once you know what to look for. I never got into the files like that before.
