Subject: Poser 5 Serial Problems!!!

Irish ( ) posted Mon, 13 December 2004 at 5:17 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 9:58 AM

My Poser 5 arrived by courier today and I was so delighted since I only ordered it last week. Unfortunately, when I installed it and it asked for my Serial #, it won't accept it. It has a strange item in it, which is a dash, but up higher than a normal dash, and I do not have any key on my keyboard that would make this. A friend suggested the Character Map in Windows so I checked it out and typed in the Alt and numbers to create this dash. I figured that would do it but nope, Poser 5 will not accept it. I have written Curious Labs but I am just wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem and, if so, did you find a solution? Thanks in advance! :) Irene

I don't think I put in the dashes at all. The window for the serial number was divided into four or five parts. So the serial number divided up into blocks automatically, without the dashes.

i had this problem. I called Curious Labs. I got the answer. substitute 0 [the numeral zero] for the up-in-the-air dashes. Curious guys told me the 'printer made a mistake.' ::::: Opera :::::

I'd install all the service packs too... I seem to recall one of the SRs fixing some sort of serial problem. It's been so long since I had to enter my serial, I can't remember much about it...

Oh, you've got to be kidding. They're shipping the product with defective serial numbers??? I would think the printer would fix their error for free, if it was their mistake.

Why not? They've had the same spelling error on the disc sleeve since version 4. >:( "This is your serial number. Do not loose or throw away!"

I was a somewhat annoyed by the fact that they didn't at least attach a post-it note or something. Short of "we don't care" I would guess the packages with the defective serial numbers got out into the channel before they caught it. Even though I purchased directly from CL, they have a 'fulfillment house' in place for the shipping of orders. My Curious guy was NOT able to actually cross talk with them (there was another small issue with the shipment.) This was about 10 days ago. Seems like this problem should have been addressed by the time Irene's package shipped recently. ::::: Opera :::::

Really. I found them helpful. I received Poser5 on Tuesday, 11.23.04 I went to register and discovered the "high underscore" problem. I put the package aside, because my first project only required one file off the CD to use in P4PP. Upon returning from my thanksgiving trip, I needed to register. I called the support line. After a few minutes, Colin Gerbode, whom I had spoken to before, came on the line. As soon as I began to speak about the "high underscores," he knew exactly what the problem was and gave me the solution. I am not happy CL made this dumb mistake, but they were responsive with the solution. dolfijntjes, did you tell them about the bad lettering, or did you have a different problem, and how did you solve it? ::::: Opera :::::

Thanks to Everyone for your responses and thank you especially to Opera; replacing the upper dash with a zero worked!! I have an email into Curious Lab but for me to telephone, would be a long distance call from Canada, and I could envision me going through many different departments before actually talking to someone who could help. This appears to have been a past problem so I do not understand why they did not include a note inside...sure would have offset a lot of grey hairs!! THANKS AGAIN & MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL!!!! :) Irene
