Subject: Importing/loading apo gradients

Greetings, all...first post here in the fractal forum (I'm usually hanging about the Vue forum). I'm enjoying playing with Apophysis, getting some cool flames from it. I found a lot of beautiful gradients in your freestuff area as well as links in the forum, but the instructions say to load gradients through the file/load gradient command. I'm using 2.02, I think, and can't find that command. There isn't a gradient folder inside Apo. So I'm a bit confused. Anyone got any tips? Thanks in advance, and thanks to all who make the gradients available to us noobs!

You can load gradient files through the gradient browser. Click on the icon the arrow is pointing to. This will call up a search dialog...just remember where you put the gradient file :D Nick

Hi again, Nick...I got the little gradient window when I clicked on that icon, but it's blank, with no way I can figure out to load anything into it. There's no icons or anything. I'm probably overlooking something obvious, but danged if I can figure it out!!

yes, i have the same problem, but, very strangly, i can access a gradient file when i press the bronze button. it's very strange. it does not show me the gradient either, it just loads one. i am perplexed. plus i do not understand the animation button/script. it loads, it runs and runs and runs and i have no idea what it's doing or where it's saving the output to. it says something like 'saving to c:/renders', 'cept i have have no folder named such.

I subscribed to the mailing list, but have yet to figure out how to use it...to get into the digests and see if I can find answers there...any tips on that welcome as well, lol!

i'm on that list too. i've asked there, but i need to ask again i suppose. i tried what was intially suggested, to make a folder named 'gradients' and to put it into that. did that but still can't open it the way it should be. the mailing list is easy to do. create a folder in your mail client, set filters to route mail from them into it and then generally all you have to do is hit reply to whichever mail.i don't think you're the only one with difficulties though seeing as i get some mails in triplicate atm. another thought is to find out which files/folders windows is hiding, uncheck that option and add the new gradients directly into apos gradients. not sure how to do that though just now.

The icon I mentioned previously, brings up the gradient browser dialog. Just click the folder icon and search for any gradient files that you may have downloaded. The bronze button is to call up images that you can use for a gradient source. Incidentally, the gradient files shown in this dialog, I got from etomchek (thanks Elizabeth :D) nick

yes i know nick, the problem is the downloaded gradients aren't loading into the gradient browser. it really is very strange :), i'll give it another go later when i switch platforms.

Yep, same with me, Nick; I don't have an open folder button at the bottom right of the gradient browser like you do, and the white window is blank. Hmmm.

I'm running Apo 2.02 on Windows XP as well, and I get the folder icon... This is very strange :S Do you have your gradient files in your Apophysis folder?

yes. the apo folder it self does not have a gradient folder to download into . the apo list suggested i create one then. which i did, made no difference. do you have to make pathway or something ? i am clueless when it comes to windows.

Djeser ( ) posted Fri, 07 January 2005 at 6:53 AM

I tried both ways, Nick; I created a gradient folder (as suggested in gradient download readme) and put the gradients in there, and I also put them out in the regular apo file. I still get that blank gradient browser window. I'm stumped!

I have seen many people have to uninstall and reinstall Apo for various reasons, and it often helps. You might try that. Otherwise, perhaps joining the Apo mailing list would help (warning...they generate tons of email, so maybe you should get a yahoo or hotmail account just for that). There are lots of people who really know the software and Mark Townsend monitors the list.

Fractals will always amaze me!

I did join the list, and asked for digest, help file, etc etc, but as I've never belonged to a mailing list like this, I find it a bit confusing, lol! So I'll reinstall this morning and see if that helps. thanks!

I uninstalled and reinstalled, and still can't load other gradients. Aaaargh! I can't suss out how to use the mailing list, so I emailed the list owner to ask how I can use it. The digest I received had only messages from 2003...and that can't be right, lol!
